Florida Gators recruiting: Taylor with a decision to make

The Florida Gators recruiting train is winding down for the class of 2016 as the Gators hosted eight official visitors this past weekend. Five of those eight guys are committed to Florida.

One of those committed prospects was safety Jeawon Taylor (6-2, 192, Montgomery, AL Park Crossing) who enjoyed his visit to Florida according to his mother Jeanetta Taylor.

“It went great for us,” Mrs. Taylor said. “We were able to get detailed information about the major he’s thinking of taking in college. He’s planning on majoring in biomedical engineering. We got to see the living facilities as well. It went great.”

Taylor has visited Gainesville several times for games and camps but this was his first chance to really see the campus and the dorms.

“Everything looked great around campus and everything was very presentable,” added Mrs. Taylor.

“They kind of told us that the dorms we saw were getting renovated so he wouldn’t be in the old dorms anymore. Compared to the dorms that I had in college these were great.”

During the official visit Taylor got the chance to hang out with the current players and his mom says the safety enjoyed his time with them.

“I think the coaches and the families are great, they have great families,” Mrs. Taylor said. “They were all welcoming and the players were welcoming so overall it was a good environment. He loved hanging out with the rest of the commits.”

On Sunday morning Taylor and his mother got to sit down with Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain and the two parties had a good talk.

“Coach McElwain was just telling us that he was glad to have us down here,” she said. “Just the normal stuff but he’s a stand up guy that we have a good relationship with. I think it was a good conversation and it was a productive one.”

Taylor also got to sit down with linebackers coach Randy Shannon and defensive coordinator Geoff Collins during the visit.

“All of the coaches were just telling Jeawon that they could use him in the Swamp,” Mrs. Taylor said. “They all said they like Jeawon and want him in the Swamp next season.”

Despite a great visit to Florida, Taylor’s mom says they still have a final decision to make on National Signing Day.

“We’re going to go home and weigh the pro’s and the con’s between Florida and Georgia,” she said. “We are just going to hope that he makes the best decision for himself on Wednesday.”
