WCWS Photo Gallery: Gators vs. UCLA

OKLAHOMA CITY — Gator Country was the only Florida media outlet to have a photographer at the Women’s College World Series as the Gators’ made the first appearance in the program’s 12-year history. Here’s the third of five photo galleries, featuring 200 images you won’t find anywhere else.

After avoiding elimination in a thrilling game earlier in the day against first-team All American pitcher Angela Tincher and the Virginia Tech Hokies, the Florida softball team faced another first-team All American pitcher in a second elimination game in the same day.

UCLA pitcher Anjelica Selden’s throwing error led to a Gator run in the first inning. The Gators would add another run in the sixth inning after Ali Gardiner singled to reach base. Le-Net Franklin pinch ran for Gardiner and stole second base. Francesca Enea singled to drive in the run and give the Gators a 2-0 lead.

Florida was held to three hits and two walks by Selden.

The Gators had a first-team All American pitcher of their own. Junior Stacey Nelson was very effective, shutting out the Bruins on five strikeouts while allowing five hits and a walk.

Waleszonia and Florida freshman Tiffany DeFelice were the only Gators to reach base more than once. DeFelice batted 1-for-2 and walked, while Waleszonia reached on the first-inning error and had a walk. Waleszonia scored the first run of the game for UF.

Florida improved to 69-4 on the season, extending its NCAA record for most wins in a season.

Waleszonia’s stolen base in the first inning tied her own single-season school record of 24.
