Postin shatters own school track & field record at UCF Invitational

Florida sophomore thrower Jeremy Postin (Auburndale, Fla.) shattered his own school record in the men’s hammer throw and the Gators captured three events on the day to open the two-day UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.

“It was an unbelievable performance by Jeremy Postin today, breaking the school record by over 14 feet in the men’s hammer throw,” Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. “I was also very pleased with the efforts of Eric Foran in the pole vault, with one of the top jumps of his life. Josh Pederson in the long jump and Zane Breakiron in the javelin both did a great job today. It’s good to see everyone getting off to a strong start outdoors. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and seeing some more great performances by our men and our women.”

Postin won the men’s hammer throw event with a lifetime personal-best toss of 64.70m/212-3. That shattered his previous UF school record of 60.58m/198-9, as he became the first person in school history to surpass the 200-foot mark in the men’s hammer.  Postin’s previous school record was set at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic last season.

“This was a great start to the outdoor season for Jeremy,” said Steve Lemke, associate head coach/throws. “He had a very good indoor season and we’ve been looking forward to the start of the outdoor season. The hammer throw is his better event and he’s been excited about competing outdoors. We expected a start like that and I’m really pleased that all of the hard work that he put in indoors and leading up to outdoors showed immediate results. We are expecting big things from him this season.”

Sophomore thrower Zane Breakiron (Uniontown, Pa.) captured the men’s javelin event with a throw of 59.62m/195-7, which is just short of his collegiate personal-best mark of 61.17m/200-8.

Pole vaulter Eric Foran (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) won the men’s pole vault with a leap of 5.05m/16-6.75, while Max Lang (Tallahassee, Fla.) tied for second with a mark of 4.65m/15-3.

Jumper Josh Pederson (Clermont, Fla.) placed second in the men’s long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.22m/23-8.25 (+0.8), which bettered his previous-best mark of 6.78m/22-3.

Senior pole vaulter Daisy Glasser (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) was third in the pole vault competition, tying her season-best mark of 3.80m/12-5.50.

The final day of the UCF Invitational begins at 9:30 a.m. ET Saturday.
