Images from the Gators’ 99th win of the season, which was made even sweeter when they swept in-state rival Florida State 7-0 at the Alfred A Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla. on Feb. 29, 2012.

After its last scheduled match against North Carolina was cancelled shortly before the completion of doubles, it had been 17 days since the University of Florida women’s tennis team played a full game. Although, it was business as usual for the No. 15 Gators to get their 99th consecutive home win in a 7-0 sweep against Florida State.

“I thought we were very efficient. I really liked the way we competed, the way we played. I thought we set the tone right from the start in doubles. I was very pleased with that actually. I though we were aggressive, we moved at the right time, served to the right spots, I’m very pleased. Frankly, I thought we were good from start to finish today,” said UF coach Roland Thornqvist.

This was the fourth time the Gators were able to sweep the doubles matches. Alex Cercone and Olivia Janowicz made quick work of Ruth Seaborne and Leyla Erkan. In 32 minutes Cercone and Janowicz swept the games to win 8-0. The 13th-ranked doubles pair of Allie Will and Sofie Oyen were reunited to down Carolina De Los Santos and Francesca Segarellia, 8-2. The finals doubles match took 46 minutes to finish but the result was the same. The duo of Joanna Mather and Caroline Hitiman completed the doubles sweep against Amy Sargeant and Mia Vriens, 8-2.
