No. 20 Florida lacrosse team routs Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Caroline Chesterman and Kitty Cullen scored four goals each and No. 20 Florida had another strong defensive performance in its 15-3 college lacrosse victory Friday at Le Moyne.

Florida (9-4, 1-2 American Lacrosse Conference) dominated from the opening draw as Chesterman scored her first goal just 28 seconds into the game on a free-position shot. Brittany Dashiell also scored on a free-position shot and then Cullen scored two in a row for a 4-0 Florida lead with 16:29 left in the first half.

Chesterman scored again and Ashley Bruns scored at the 4:01 mark to build a 6-0 lead before Jackie Lundblad scored for Le Moyne with 21 seconds left in the half.

Mia Valletta scored for Le Moyne to start the second half but then Florida put the game out of reach by scoring the next nine goals. Chesterman scored twice more on assists from Bruns, and then Janine Hillier finished off a pass from Chesterman to put Florida up 9-2. Two more goals by Cullen and a goal from Caroline Cochran gave the Gators a 10-goal lead, 12-2, with 12:21 to play.

Dashiell and Hillier each scored their second goal of the game and Cori Gray capped the scoring for Florida with just over three minutes left in regulation. Kamide Gabrielle scored for Le Moyne with 13 seconds remaining in the contest.

The defensive group of Katie Ciaci, Sam Farrell, Haydon Judge, Jamie Reeg and Kayla Stolins limited Le Moyne to 11 shots and Florida goalie Cara Canington had seven saves while allowing two goals in 52 minutes of action. Florida took 44 shots and controlled 15 draws to Le Moyne’s nine. Florida, which visits Colgate Sunday at noon, also had 18 ground balls.
