Keely Medeiros wins shot put title

Senior thrower Keely Medeiros (Blumenau-SC, Brazil) had her best performance of the outdoor season at the 2012 Seminole Invitational at Mike Long Track on the campus of Florida State University.

Medeiros threw a season-best 17.18m/56-4.25 in the women’s shot put, earning her the top spot in the event as she propelled herself into the Top 5 nationally in the women’s shot put this season.

“We were looking for Keely to have a solid performance after last weekend’s Florida Relays,” Florida associate head coach Steve Lemke said. “Keely came here and did what we wanted her to do. She threw the best she’s thrown all season and put herself among the national leaders. This is where we want her to be with a month until the conference meet, especially with how hard she has worked recovering from her injury last summer.”

Also participating at the Seminole Invitational was former Gator All-American Kemal Mesic (Sarajevo, Bosnia). Mesic took home the men’s shot put title with a mark of 20.18m/66-2.50, out-throwing the competition by nearly five meters to claim his second title in two weeks.

Florida now looks ahead to hosting the Tom Jones Memorial Classic. The event will take place Saturday, April 21.
