Horn seventh in Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas – Florida freshman decathlete Gary Horn finished seventh out of a field of 21 as the two-day, 10-discipline event came to a close Thursday at the 82nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

One of two freshmen to compete, Horn finisher with 7,067 points. After scoring 3,835 points on Wednesday, Horn managed just 3,232 points on Thursday.

In the first event (the competition’s sixth) of the day, Horn finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds for 865 points.

The next event, however, was Horn’s stumbling block as he finished 20th in the discus competition. After fouls on his first two throws, Horn had to be careful and managed only a 94-feet, 8-inch effort, which netted him only 442 points.

Horn and the rest of the competitors had to wait for high winds to subside in the evening to compete in the pole vault, the eighth event.  Horn finished tied for seventh with a vault of 14 feet, 3¼ inches to earn 716 points.

Horn had a toss of 147 feet, 6 inches to finish 13th in the javelin competition and earning 514 points.

Then in the final event, the 1,500 meters, Horn was timed in 4:37.70 while finishing sixth to earn 695 points.

Senior Camille Vandendriessche of Abilene Christian won with 7,531 points. Daniel Kinsey, a junior at Akron, was second with 7,385 points.  Junior Cory Roberts of Southeast Louisiana was third with 7,364 points. Junior Trinity Otto of Texas A&M was fourth with 7,355 points and senior Mat Clark of Northern Iowa was fifth with 7,202 points. Senior Andrew Webb of Texas was sixth with 7,187 points.
