Beisel earns SEC weekly honors

Junior Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Swimmer of the Week. This is the first weekly honor for a Florida swimmer in this young 2012-13 season. It is Beisel’s sixth time being named SEC Swimmer of the Week during her career as a Gator.

The award comes after her performance at the SMU Classic this past weekend. The meet featured six teams that were all ranked in the top 25 at the end of last season. Beisel swam her way to four top-3 finishes and earned NCAA B standard times in five events (400 IM, 500 free, 100 back, 200 IM and as part of the 800 free relay).

Beisel finished second in the 500 free in time 4:45.55 and swam to a 1:59.69 finish in the 200 IM. She also completed the 400 IM in 4:07.59 and helped the 800 free relay squad to a third-place finish with a time of 7:21.37. Currently she ranks first in the SEC in the 500 free, 200 IM and 400 IM.

The Gators will be back in action this weekend as they open their dual meet season with back-to-back SEC road meets against Georgia on Thursday, October 25 at 3 p.m. and South Carolina Friday, October 26 at 2 p.m.
