What schematics would you use to ENSURE a score in the red zone, given you are in charge of such things?

I only ask because this.....along with unnecessary penalties.....are my 2 biggest pet peeves.

Feel free to share your scoring philosophy including as much detail as you would like.

Yes I know nothing is guaranteed but in this case....your head is on the line (sorta speak) so I'm asking for one!

    :)

If you have a great FG kicker...that works well.

Utilize speed...Reverses to wide side of field. Options out of our diamond formation.

Coach up a good TE. They are invaluable in the redzone.

Don't let Driskel pass it inside the twenty...unless it's a flair towards the sidelines.

Somebody should have been "coached up" at TE by now.

Part of this could be looking at how it is done successfully by other teams. Who has the best red zone scoring %? Check them out - why couldn't what they are doing work for us as well?

    My answer would be:

1st option: run it in - but NOT directly into an 8 man front. How you do that I don't know but that's my opinion.

I know the answer is not that easy...or is it?

Find a fade thrower like Danny....and some fade catchers like Ike.

This dazzling post was sent via my Samsung Galaxy Tablet using jet packs custom built for Gator Country.

Well, the flair got picked off last game also.

At this point about the only pass I would favor in the RZ would be the fade. Of course, Im sure someone will point out that we never call that because our QB doesnt have touch or our WRs are too short. Passes over the middle in traffic get batted up in the air too much for me unless you have a proven QB.

If your are a running team, you should be able to pound it in off tackle, sweeps, etc, etc. If not, kick the fg, play defense and get em next time. That worked pretty well last year.

Do whatever got you into the red zone in the first place, and if that doesn't lead to pay dirt, take the 3.

Which is to say, run the ball and make smart decisions in passing situations.

Agreed, fade routes are hard to defend.

    The read option is good.

Also how about actually throwing the ball into the end zone? So far I think we've done it twice all year. Our freshman wrs should be able to run a simple fade route

Read option for sure. That play always works. They should run it more in general.
I know it's "illegal", but pick plays work great down there.

No fades though. That is a low percentage throw that has to be put in the perfect spot. Our receivers aren't exactly big either.

Read option with Burton, but actually allow him options, including throwing it..

practice 30-40 yard field goals. If we dont have someone that can make those this staff needs to be reevaluated.
