That's a bit extreme. We had a bad season. We are not at rock bottom.
If UF is in the top 25 it's solely based on name recognition that it's a top program (not injuries from the year before or a good recruiting class, etc). 4-8, no bowl, does not deserve a ranking coming into the next year, end of story-that's the last product that was on the field. But, as others said, I'd be happy with being unranked...earn your way up, on the field.
Yes, they are in my preseason top 25. Driskell should be in good condition, and better suited for the Roper system. The defense should still be stout. If they do not finish in the top 25, that should just about do it for WM. I really hope he and he team put it together and I think 2014 should be a much better year, than last. The schedule is brutal, and I can see cutting some slack, but no excuses for losing to teams that you are 10 times better than.
Not at all. Its going by the perceived talent we have and what they think we'll do based on that talent. I'm sure the program name weighs in on it but its a minor factor IMO.
Hmmm, this is a bit pessimistic I think, although I am not far off on our loss total, I will go with 3. I think we will be top 15 to begin the year, I am fairly confident most people that do this kind of thing for a living will understand last year was an anomaly of epic proportions
Perhaps. But from a personnel perspective on offense, we lost our only productive big play threat (Patton), our most productive OL (Harrison) and another four year starting OL. And we haven't had a healthy productive QB or OL or WRs, since 2009. And no TEs that could catch the ball last year.
I really believe Roper and company have plenty to work with on our roster, but if I'm on the outside looking in, I'd really have to question how likely it is that we put a productive offense on the field. Plus our schedule is brutal.
Top 25 in that context is not bad. I think we can beat it if things work out well, but I'm not sure we necessarily will.
4-8 is rock bottom for a program like UF.
That would be 0-12, but not far from it...like tebowism said, it's one season..hopefully it's a fluke.
The injuries were definitely a fluke so we're ahead already.....for now anyways.
In another thread I said that it's not even spring or summer time practice; injuries are going to happen when players are practicing hard.. When a team comes out of spring and summer practices with little or no injuries, it's the exception not the rule...I hope we are the exception this year.
4-8 is not rock bottom. When you look at a program rock bottom is a lack of talent not wins.
Good points, however at the end of the day all football teams are judged by wins and losses..it's not fair but it's just the way it is nonetheless.
True but I can't name another season with so many injures at key positions
I agree. Would really like to see the past bcs champions injury reports both in spring and summer practices before their championship run started..I wouldn't be surprised if there was a correlation in how few injuries they had during spring and summer practices. No injuries equals depth..depth equals championships.
The only reason we would be ranked would be by name only. Based on our record from last season imo we need to earn it. We wouldn't be in my top 25.
Based on the talent on the team alone they'd be wrong not to include the Gators in the top 25. Name recognition should never be a consideration. But what really gets me is that some teams are picked to win it all based somewhat on their weak a$$ strength of schedule. This is why I liked the computers being part of the raking system. SOS is gone and now crap teams from crap conferences with a crap resume will be considered in the playoff system.
Yes... I do believe we're worthy of top 25 ranking.
We shouldn't even be mentioned in the top 35. At least preseason...... Time to get our lunch pails, and get to work.
Then no team should be ranked in preseason...
No fricken way. There is no way a 4-8 team with a new offensive system and question marks all over the offensive side of the ball should be a pre-season top 25 team.
This is the issue with pre-season rankings. The rankings shouldn't even be discussed until like week 6 or 7. Until that time, it's just a blind guess. Even during week 6 or 7 it's still a guess but at least it's somewhat informed.
