Even had UF not experienced the derth of injuries it had in '13, most would agree the preseason ranking (I believe 10th) was a bit of a reach.
Given that, and the premis that preseason is based on the potential, where do you place the Gators?
I'm feeling 18th is a good place to start (understanding it's a total crapshoot).

(If mods feel this thread is a duplicate, by all means delete. I can always start a uniform thread:)).

I don't think our preseason ranking was a reach at all. We closed out '12, what, #4 in the country and returned a ton of huge starters.

    It just collapsed.

Yes, we should be a top 25 team in 2014.

We play a tough schedule in 2014 against a lot of very good teams. We are searching for an identity on offense with a new coordinator and players that don't have much experience. I think it will be a huge leap for us to finish in the top 25 at the end of the season.

While we did have quite a few guys who had played, we only returned 12 starters including our punter last year. That's why Steele had as down around 20 (if I recall correctly). That and the schedule.

I think Steele had us about right, if we hadn't run into the buzz saw of injuries.

This year, we return 14 starters including 6 on each side of the ball and the kickers. We also face what will likely be a brutal schedule unless a few teams fall way off. We played so many different players due to all the injuries, that I'd like to see how many plays we return in our two deep. That would provide a better indication of how likely we are to do.

On the national scale, we certainly do not deserve any kind of preseason ranking. I think we'll likely finish between 20 and 25 with 4 losses... assuming we get some reasonable luck with health on the OL, and QB play.

DOn't care about the preseason but if not ranked at the end not sure if Muschamp can survive that.

I would LOVE to see them unranked at the beginning of the season..just adds to the collective chip on this team's shoulders. and with our strength of schedule, if we play good football, win games against our schedule, we climb through the polls in no time. And no, before it's even said this isnt a ploy to see champ fired. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter where you start..it matters where you end!

Our injuries hit us in the positions that matter most--and we'll be getting those guys back this year. As a result, I expect UF to be ranked in the bottom half of most pre-season polls; but to be honest, I don't think it's deserved. Our ranking is based on our program's name and brand identity--not on performance.

And I'd rather our team come out with a massive chip on it's shoulder as opposed to thinking they belong when they've yet to prove that.

we haven't started spring or summer practice yet...no injuries is the exception to the rule....having said that, i hope we are the exception this year.

I'm ok with this. Should put a chip on our shoulder to earn everything they are working g for.

anyone with an offense ranked in triple digits does not deserve to be ranked.

I feel pretty good about this next years team, but I'll know more after our O&B game. If all goes well I'd say our defense alone makes us top 25 material. That is 'only if' we don't have the same kind of injuries we had last year.

And we really won't know how good or bad we'll be next year until we visit 'bama. But one tell tale sign will be if our LB's and DB's are tackling high instead of tackling low. If we don't learn how to tackle properly we're in for a very long year. But if we learn to block and tackle correctly we'll be okay for the year. Last year we had many problems to fix, but they all start and end with fundamentals like blocking and tackling.

It's ok, the "repetitive" button wasn't working today.

Deservingly or not, we'll be in the top 25. Like Rick mentioned our defense alone puts us there. The respect that Roper brings to the table, combined with the talent we have on offense, will have people thinking our offense should be much better. Our feelings aside from last season, this team should be a top 25 team on paper and that's what preseason rankings are. My guess is they start us around 21.

UF is ranked too low or South Carolina is ranked too high.

Should be ranked based on talent, but I hope they don't rank us just to make us earn it

I'm hoping UF is unranked to begin the season. That will give them a major incentive to kick some SEC butt next year! This team has most of its injured starters back and it will have a top 10 defense without question. The mystery we have to solve is what happens with Roper's offense? If its as good as he has done in the past (and I think it will be)….we will be a top 10 team by October!!! If not, we will have another forgettable season and Coach Boom will be job hunting.

if 4-8 wasnt incentive enough then being ranked or unranked isn't going to matter
