I agree with everyone about the difference between open road and thick traffic as the reason for the long commute: open road is much easier to deal with psychologically. I had about an hour in the morning and an hour+ in the evening for several years, and it was primarily due to traffic. I found myself more irritable at both work and home, and leaving earlier in the morning and later in the evening to try to avoid the traffic, but that wasn't worth it either. I eventually took about 20% less pay and a lower title for a job with a 20-minute commute. Overall mood and quality of life went up noticeably. Have since moved on to the best of both worlds, but taking the cash and title hit was definitely worth it to me until I could find the perfect combo.
