I can think of many things that reflect the sad moral state of our society, but this person's nonsensical defense against murder charges isn't one of them. The case would, though, make a pretty good movie, with Jim Carrey in drag.

Hey, I think it's a pretty creative defense.

Can't wait to see the Law & Order episode on this, next season!

The repercussions could also be devastating to the LBGT cause--their entire claim to acceptability of their lifestyle as "normal", or as a legitimate alternative, has pivoted on the pirating of the AMA to remove homosexuality from the scope of "sexual deviance".

I think that it is more about the law of unintended consequences as it relates to passing laws or allowing certain behaviors. That's not gay bashing but the proverbial "Camel's Nose in the Tent" scenario. It leads to some strange ideas and the people who think incrementally probably don't see the harm in any singular step along the way.

How was this caused by passing laws or 'allowing certain behaviors?'
No, I don't think it's result of anything other than this guy trying to get out of a murder charge.

No different than the litany of cases that convicts use against policies. It sounded good in theory when they were passed and then the crafty thinkers use it against society and the "well meaning." Personally (although mostly tongue-in-cheek) I think we should allow any and all silly ideas to permeate in the name of "rights" and then when it is proven to be boorish nonsense...the instigator (plaintiff or their representation) loses, say, all personal and professional legal rights for a year. Right now there isn't any real penalty for opening up one's mouth and saying something stupid. Moral hazard is rife.

If it works others should try similar strategies. Fat Jimmy killed that guy. I had liposuction. Skinny Jimmy is innocent.

Is that really 'proverbial'? Or did you just make that one up?

Well yeah, several variations of this have been tried to different degrees. It's basically a creative twist on an old tactic (...that never really works in any of its incarnations anyway).

Just a couple of years ago they convicted a guy for a 50 y/o rape/murder. The guy was an upstanding citizen; successful business man, philanthropist, father and grandfather, the whole bit.

....he was a punk when he was younger (early 20's).

    No dice.

Dude was convicted, and sentenced to longer than he'll probably live.

    C'est la vie.

Not sure you answered my question. You just repeated the same concern that well-meaning laws created this. How so? What law?

Taking my posts too literally. I am taking the stand that the person did not just come up with an idea like "the Devil made me do it" but that currently, a great deal of energy is expended on sexual non-conformity and the desire to be inclusive instead of deriding. That, IMO, has opened the door to his playing the victim card. And that is what I was alluding to and not any particular statute that supports his assertion. But his assertion has the genesis in previous "well meaning" policies or laws. JMHO

Re: "...the proverbial "Camel's Nose in the Tent" scenario."

    LOL! Learn something new everyday...

Here I was thinking it was some sort of hybrid allusion, or cliche referring to 'camel toe', and 'pitching a tent'.

    (given the topic)

I see how your post makes sense now. My bad...
