I've been giving it some thought during the dog days of summer (pun intended) with nary a positive football story. If we're gonna do this eventual slow countdown to kickoff, nothing leaves me twisting like our worst score ever:

    26-21 1980 UGA

Beat Georgia and we win our first SEC title-EVER!!!

The score repeated the very next year. WTH???

SOS healed the wound but the scar never fades. Bust out your "fave"!!

No contest....our 20-26 loss against Georgia Southern at home in the Will Muschamp 'era'.

The worst ALL-time loss in the history of the University of Florida football program.

75-0 looks pretty ugly even though few if any of us were around in 1942 to remember it.

But for me it's 34-32. Just typing that out brings out so much hate.

Definitely the "Run Lindsey Run". It propelled them to a National Championship and that play will never die. It gets replayed several times each year and always makes some sort of top ten college football's greatest plays list.

no doubt as we were undefeated and playing for the mnc that night.

from an odd ball score, I say 31-4, where we scored on two safeties thanks to the scUM snapper thinking that Kareem Abdul Jabbar was their punter.

A lot to choose from. Since I was there I will go with the 4th and dumb game (1976 Fl-GA).

4th and dumb on our own 29. We took a commanding lead 27-14 at halftime only to have Georgia come storming back in the 3rd quarter to tighten the game to 27-20. Instead of running Willie Wilder or Tony Green, we pitched it to Earl Carr who tried to go around left end. He was isolated on Johnny Henderson who stopped him in his tracks. Willie or Tony would have juked him and picked up the first down IMHO. It went all downhill from there.

    21-24
At the time losing to FSU in 1996 looked like a season killer.

We were riding home from Jacksonville to Kentucky that day and my 12 year old was devastated.

Everything played out, but that day was dark.

The GA Southern loss does nothing to me because the season sucked and we were going no where. The Tennessee loss in 2001 and probably ten UGA game scores including the Spurrier's 1966 game and losing the SEC

1985: #1 Florida goes down 3-24 to UGA.

Kerwin Bell throws for a then school record 400+ yards but gets sacked repeatedly whenever UF was in the red-zone. After shutting down Auburn & 1985 Heisman winner Bo Jackson in the previous week, the Gator D got gashed by Worley & Henderson three times for long (70 yard+) TD runs. After the loss, the Georgia fans stormed the field to try to take down the goal posts but the Jax police prevented that from happening.

    Consequence of this loss:
    - loss of UF's first #1 ranking & a chance to win their 1st national title while still on probation.
    - end of school record 18-game winning streak: a record that held for 23 years, (The 2008-2009 UF teams led by Tim Tebow had a 22-game winning streak!)
    - this is when my personal hatred for Georgia grew. You can never beat a Bulldog often enough!

This current 3-game losing streak to UGA is getting on my nerves!

    Several come to mind:

1980 - Georgia 26, Florida 21. My first Cocktail party. I can STILL hear the woofing in my ears...

    1982 - Georgia 44, Florida 0. Herschel scores AGAIN!

1987 - Miami 31, Florida 4. An utter beatdown with Florida only capable of scoring safeties. The laughter from Miami fans on the OB still ringinig in my ears.

1990 - Tennessee 45, Florida 3. Spurrier's first test against a good team, and it was ugly!

1992 - Miss State 30, Florida 6. Shane was a Heisman candidate before the game. He wasn't afterwards.

1994 - FSU 31, Florida 31. The Choke At Doak. As big a loss as any.

    1995 - Nebraska 62, Florida 24. The Fiasco Bowl

1996 - FSU 24, Florida 21. The Echo Of The Whistle

    1999 - Alabama 34, Florida 7. Embarrassed in Atlanta

2003 - FSU 38, Florida 34. The Swindle At The Swamp

2004 - Tennessee 30, Florida 28. The Robbery At Rocky Top

2004 - Miss State 38, Florida 31. The Straw That Broke The Zooker's Back

    2006 - Auburn 27, Florida 17. Auburn's legendary home-cooking cost us a perfect season.

2011 - FSU 21, Florida 7. FSU beat us by two TDs with 95 yards total offense. They didn't HAVE to move the ball to beat us.

2013 - Georgia Southern 26, Florida 20 - The worst loss in modern Florida history.

The 2001 Tennessee game is still the most painful game I've ever witnessed. I still, to this day, hate Tennessee more than any other SEC team. The current streak sure does make me happy.

Yeah...but at least we have a favorable overall series record against Tennessee.
The Vols beat us that day with their ground game and a much healthier team.
Wasn't that game rescheduled later into the season due to the 9/11 attacks?
I guess the terrorists DID win after all.

But seriously, the SEC schools that should bother you more are:

Ole Miss - The Zooker ruined our chances to even this one up
Georgia - Series imbalance changing our way until things went Boom
Auburn - They always seem to make our game a personal vendetta
Alabama - To be the best you have to beat the best....are we worthy?

Considering all of our respective histories....we should only be behind Alabama.

40-39 in 1999, missing an extra point to lose our 30 game home winning streak to Alabama.

We lost 51-0 against Georgia in a rain storm in 1968. Vince Dooley went for a field goal in the closing minutes when they were up 48-0. That's why I still hate Georgia and Dooley.

The most painful? Choke at Doak.

Most sobering? 95 Nebraska game. There was no joy n Hogtown that day.
