was the best movie I saw all year!

Leo is one of the greatest actors of all time. I don't remember seeing a movie he was in that I didn't like.

Jonah Hill was great. Matthew McConaughey was hilarious.

It is 3 hours so its a little long, but it had you interested the whole time. Great story. Very funny.

My kids and I chose between Mitty and this movie and kids picked Walter Mitty...I want the 2 hours of my life back. Paul Michael Anderson type hipster navel gazing, all that was missing was a light skinned black guy in black rimmed glasses and a flamboyant hyperactive gay character. The clichés would have been complete then. Next time I don't let a 13 and an 18 pick. I wanted to see this movie!

Wolf of Wall St doesn't exactly sound like a movie I'd want to see with my teenaged kids. Especially on Christmas.
    Review...

    http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2013/12/23/movie-review-the-wolf-of-wall-street/

    Excerpt...
The movie doesn’t miss an opportunity to indulge in drawn-out, drunken sex-scenes with wives, girlfriends and hookers, rampant abuse of every illegal substance you can think of and the generally over-the-top behavior Belfort and his friends apparently loved.

It's a good movie, but a bit tedious. I did check my watch a few times, I think it was an hour too long. Leo and Jonah were good.

I am deeply in love with Margot Robbie.

I could do without Jonah Hill.

How did this movie escape an NC17 rating? I am anything but a prude but the blatant drug use and sex acts and lack of any redeeming qualities left me wanting less. Christmas release; really. Disappointing is not a strong enough word; discusted maybe. Potential career killer

I haven't seen it but the review I posted matches up with what you say. To answer your question- Scorese is the director. If they slapped an NC 17 rating on it the whole business would howl "censorship" since again, Scorese directed it. I think the man is overrated and goes in too much for shock value, but the industry loves him.

The movie was SUPPOSED to be disgusting. Scorsese managed to make it both funny and disgusting at the same time which seemed a pretty good feat. Curious as to whose career you think may be killed, Scorcese? The Principals? I do not think so, but hey, this is obviously a wildly divisive film.

I am guessing the career killer would be Leo's.

Entertaining but 12 Years a Slave was the best movie of 2013.

Margot Robbie is a Grace Kelly type beauty, just spectacular. This movie was one I wanted to like, but like other reviews said, was a little long, Scorsese could have left 45 minutes on the cutting room floor and it would have been better. I don't blame his direction, I think the screenplay was choppy. Jordan Belforts character was written like Tony Soprano, a lovable yet complicated scoundrel...but unlike Tony S, he did not have much depth and all his hooting and hollering made him unlikeable. Also the real Jordan Belfort, his story, was typical Wall Street late 80's early 90's pre derivatives mortgage bust stuff, he really was no worse or better than the other huckers at big brokerage houses. synopsis, Oliver Stone's Wall Street meets a violence free GoodFellas..but hell that Margot Robbie...even GF admitted I could add her to my "Hall Pass" list.

Nah, after my 19 year marriage, subsequent therapy, dating 3 women at once, reading tons of books, lots of soul searching, learned one absolute truth... never hang your personal happiness or worth on another, love and be complete with yourself. "Get her a rock" logic is for 20 somethings who are not really sure who they are and think a relationship is about "fusing" to another person, getting your self worth about being in a relationship and being accepted by another. No shame in that, however dysfunctional and immature it is. I was there as was my ex-wife, ...oh how clueless we were at 25.

    Off the soapbox now....
