I noticed that too. Spurrier is clearly the master at winning big games, and that stat proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt. And he did it at SOUTH CAROLINA. Enough said.

In 2012 we play for the national championship IF we win the SEC championship game. That's an assumption I'm not willing to make.

So we were close means we are good? Lousiana Lafeete or whatever their name is almost beat us the wonder year Muschamp had. It was a blocked punt or something like that that allowed us to win. They aren't that good.

Good coaches sense how to win the close games. Unemployed coaches don't - or go back to being coordinators or assistants. IMO, Spur's is still the best game day coach in college ball. He consistently does more with the few great athletes on his three-star roster than some coaches with loaded rosters. I believe great coaches are born and not made. They all have their plans to win and can communicate those plans to staff and team - and have all buy in. They usually recognize great assistants as well.

He had a good run the last three years, this is true. But since 2005, SOS is 17-24 against teams with four or fewer losses. The last three years, USCe and Clemson stockpiled a ton of talent. Look at both teams:

    Year------------USCe------------Clemson

    2005.....................7-5.........................8-4
    2006.....................8-5.........................8-5
    2007.....................6-6.........................9-4
    2008.....................7-6.........................7-6
    2009.....................7-6.........................9-5
    2010.....................9-5..........................6-7

    Total............44-33 (.571).......47-31 (.603) a difference of .032 percentage points

    2011.....................11-2.........................10-4
    2012.....................11-2.........................11-2
    2013.....................11-2.........................11-2

    Total..............33-6 (.846)........32-8 (.800) a difference of .046 percentage points)

Is it reflected by recruiting rankings and the draft?

    Year----------USCe Star Avg------Clemson Star Avg-------------USCe Draftees----Clemson Draftees
    .......................................................................................................................Off/Def.........................Off/Def

    2005......................2.96...............................3.08.............................................1/2.........................................1/2
    2006......................3.08..............................3.40..............................................0/2........................................1/2
    2007......................3.42...............................3.22..............................................1/1.........................................1/3
    2008......................3.18...............................3.42..............................................1/0........................................1/1
    2009......................3.34...............................3.50..............................................4/3........................................1/3
    2010......................3.04...............................3.35...............................................0/2.......................................2/3

    Average...........3.17.........................3.33..........................Total...7/10.............................7/14

    2011......................3.25................................3.34...............................................0/2.......................................2/4
    2012.....................3.24................................3.45................................................2/4.......................................1/3
    2013.....................3.38................................3.30................................................4/3.......................................2/2
    2014.....................3.48................................3.38................................................1/1........................................3/1

    Average..........3.34.........................3.37...........................Total...7/10.............................8/10

If one was to rank all the teams from top to bottom, two teams that next to each other are USCe and Clemson - nationally, whether it is a 3 year period or an 8 year period. Both teams rose sharply in 2011. I believe the rise is due to the rising prominence of the state of South Carolina, as well as the ability of both teams to recruit top quality from out of state.

So being that Muschamp won six games by a TD or less in three years, by definition, he is a good coach as well...right? Ron Zook won nine games by single digits in 3 years.

Spurrier also lost five games by single digits since 2010, and in three of them (Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky), it was either due to poor offensive play-calling or poor clock management.

As a gameday coach, there are several coaches that do more with less than Spurrier. USCe's rosters are not poor, and haven't been for years.

I'm not sure if there's a question in there or not. You're combating what I said with an outcome from another game? I simply stated that we played very close games with the team that had the best record but yet there was a big difference in our records. I don't believe my comment was too hard to understand.

We didn't have to win the SEC Championship to play in the BCS CG.

We'd have been in it, if Notre Dame didn't have "the luck of the Irish" when it came to officiating that season. Any one of several plays gets called differently and they lose. And we're in.

Be sure to take into account that Clemson plays an ACC schedule, not SEC.

Why do I have to keep posting this? Go see Nebraska 2013 season and you will change your tune. And please don't do the whole "they played in the Big 10"thing. Go view Vanderbilt 2013 too while you're at it.

You've been hitting the 'shine way too freaking hard.

Nebraska's 2013 schedule included two ranked teams. WTF is that supposed to prove?

And yes, the fact that they played in the Big 10 has a freaking lot to do with it. One of their ranked opponents was UCLA.

I get both sides here, but we did still lose to GA Southern... With that said, I'm super excited for this season and I can't wait to beat UGA and FSU.

I know Oak isn't making any excuses for that loss or the Vandy one. However to pretend Nebraska/Vanderbilt was affected the same as us compared to schedules is ridiculous.

I share your excitement for the season as well. It's taking too long to get here.

It's truly amazing to me how many people are already making excuses for Muschamp before the season even begins...

The fact remains, you all keep making the claim that "NO" team was affected by injuries like us and I just gave you 2 teams that were decimated by injuries just like we were last season, but still went on to win their bowl games and finish with 9 wins. Then ya'll change the subject to strength of schedule when it still doesn't change the fact that both teams didn't self-destruct because of injuries like we did. Nevermind the fact that Vanderbilt was one of our 8 losses and Georgia Southern who is an FCS team that had a bunch of injuries as well was one of our 8 losses too. Bottomline, I am tired of seeing folks using the injury "excuse" for last season. I'll give a pass for 5 of those losses because of injuries, but Miami, Vanderbilt, and Georgia Southern can't be easily excused. Miami was before we had the injury explosion, we just plain lost that game due to bad decisions in the red zone. Injuries or not, the team should have been 7-5 at worst.

Dude we went 4-8. 3 of those 8 losses were to average teams ( average Vanderbilt decimated by injuries, sub-par FCS Georgia Southern decimated by injuries, average ACC team Miami). We should have been 7-5 at worst.

What has been holding South Carolina back in the past was their QB play. Give South Carolina a consistent, dynamic QB and OL, and you will see some titles roll their way.

Nobody, at least not me, is questioning the vandy or southern loss. The Miami loss didn't surprise me; I haven't had much confidence with Jeff or the offensive play calling anywhere near redzone. My only thing is with all the injuries, and lack of production, I also see our team being mentally defeated for a lot of the games before they even started. Vandy and southern really had nothing to lose.

Here's to hoping that the offensive scheme switch will turn on the light for Driskel and the offense.
