One week after Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.) quarterback Will Grier threw seven touchdown passes in a game against Abermarle, he outdid himself.

Against North Raleigh Christian Academy Friday night, Grier threw for seven touchdown passes in the first half of Davidson Day's blowout victory.

The Florida-bound Grier, who threw 69 touchdowns last year as a junior, lit up the stat sheet once more.

According to Grier's father and Davidson Day head coach Chad Grier, the younger Grier did not play at all in the second half.

In six quarters of action this season, Grier has thrown for 14 touchdowns and rushed for another score.

Though it's only August, Grier has positioned himself as the favorite to capture MaxPreps National Player of the Year honors.

He gets rid of it quickly and his OL kept him from seeing any real pressure on almost all of those passes. It'll be intriguing to see how he does against a better pass rush.

His touch, accuracy, and quick delivery are always impressive in these highlights you guys post. But damn his competition is terrible. They always look like they're afraid of tackling and running in slow motion. 5 yd passes turn into 60 yard touchdowns.

That's why you need to see his highlights from The Opening. He was playing against the best DBs in the country.

I think Grier has an arm that is much like Wuerffels. Quick and accurate, however it will not be confused with Doug Johnsons cannon. Not sure his arm is strong enough to make ALL the throws.

Are you basing that on these highlights or something else? I didn't see anything that reminded me of Danny's arm strength (or lack thereof).

Grier's arm is getting stronger as he gets older

He's got a good bit of maturing & filling out to do...his arm strength will improve

In not saying Grier's arm won't get stronger or that he has a weak arm but I think arm strength is one of those things you either have or don't. Tebow is as strong as a QB will be but he doesn't have the ball velocity that a Russell or a Boller had and no amount of development or strength training was going to close that gap.

If Grier can be Sam Bradford II he will be fine in both college and the NFL.

I am sure they would like him to earn the back up spot as a FR to be able to take over as a True SO. Staver has some tools, Murphy will be a SR and Skyler is the unknown if he will develop to compete.

Did they do any work in pads at that camp? All I saw was 7-on-7 flag football.

Does his school play on a track to the N.C. state playoffs?

Not in pads at the opening. Had to go back and check. I saw the lineman in Shells knocking the crap out of each other.
They have won back to back Championships in NC. They play in a separate classification for independent schools though. Not like when Chris Leak was winning titles at Independence. Charlotte has a few teams that are pretty good every year. There is some serious D-1 talent in the area most years.
His team plays none of the decent schools in Charlotte.
Expectations for this kid need to be tempered for next year. He's got all the tools, but it will be a massive transition.

Sure. The transition is tough for any frosh QB, but his vision, balance and mechanics all look college-ready today. Heck, I show video of Grier to my youth-league QB son for him to emulate.
