I think he's a good guy. He just made a very stupid mistake the way he dealt with that NCAA investigation. Three years in purgatory is enough for covering up a secondary violation. He deserves a good job, and I think he will get one.

He could get under our skin from time to time, but the SEC is a lot less fun now that he's out of the league.

Absolutely someone will grab him. Even if he has to start at a small school.

I would be concerned if FSU dumped Hamilton for him

Of course he will. NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA.... etc etc don't care about character. Murdered someone or were you involved with a murder? Did you help cover it up? Did you also refuse to help authorities?

No problem, you can continue to play and we will go a step further, when you retire, you can even become a commentator on ESPN...

If they are smart, they would hire him now and take the penalty. Any school that would be interested in him probably isn't great right now and can take the 1 year hit. He will get a lot more offers next year...

Who's gonna clean up all his sweat while he's employed,
plus all the NCAA mess he'll leave behind when he's fired?

Western Kentucky will take him. They sold their soul in football and then it will be hoops' turn.

I pray he stays away from both FSU and Georgia.

Am I the only one really surprised Fox hasn't done better there?

My guess is he will land on a small independent car lot. No reputable dealer will hire him with those suits.

Wait are we talking about the same thing?

    Wikipedia is your friend:

During the 1988–89 basketball season, Pearl, then an assistant coach at the University of Iowa, was at the center of a recruiting scandal involving the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Both Illinois and Iowa were recruiting Deon Thomas, a top high school player from Chicago. Pearl lost this recruiting battle when Thomas committed to Illinois. Thereafter, Pearl called the high school student and recorded a phone conversation with Thomas. During the conversation, Pearl asked Thomas if he had been offered an SUV and cash by Illinois assistant coach Jimmy Collins, and Thomas seemed to indicate that he had. Pearl then turned over copies of the tapes to the NCAA, accompanied by a memo describing the events. During the subsequent NCAA investigation, Thomas denied the allegations and said the story was false, that he was agreeing with Pearl only to try to get rid of him. Thomas later passed a polygraph test in which he denied Pearl's accusation of Illinois offering cash and a car. The NCAA did not find Illinois guilty of any wrongdoing relating to Thomas' recruitment, finding that the purported evidence provided was not "credible, persuasive and of a kind on which reasonably prudent persons rely in the conduct of serious affairs."

    Pearl is a slimy jerk.

I don't know enough to comment, not that such things have ever stopped me in the past, however, I certainly think that he is an excellent basketball coach.

Excellent coach, not sure he deserves one of the top jobs given his past shady dealings, but he probably will get one eventually.

Prior to his debacle at UT, I actually thought his dealing with Thomas was a misguided attempt to clean-up recruiting. In light of his own violations, it was obviously just sour-grapes and proves him to be nothing more than a hypocrite.
Well, a hypocrite and a helluva coach.
    Someone should grab him.

His sin was being a hypocrite more than his violations. That and lying about them.

Western Kentucky could grab him. With Petrino in football, they'd make a good pair.
