Why are so many players leaving the team?

These boards never cease to amaze me. Now it is Quinn and Meyer's NFL guys, even though Quinn ran Muschamp's pattern match pressure scheme and some of those "seven" were real "NFL" guys like Lerentee McCray and Josh Evans before Muschamp arrived. Surely Purifoy, Roberson, Fowler, Bullard, Orr, Morrison, and Ball fell apart without Quinn and are clearly inferior players to Meyer's "seven."

But, as is the course around here when things go bad, the one terrible defensive game overrides the relative success the rest of the year and ignores any legitimate reasons for the struggles, like having a pair of walkon linebackers amongst your ones by the end of the GSU game in the one game where you can't afford to have linebackers not knowing what to do because of the triple option attack. Typical GC tripe. Exaggerate the bad, minimize the good, and do everything you can to discredit the coaching staff in every respect.

I believe the OP was debating the offense being a 3 and out machine not the defense

Hello Strawman... No one said Muschamp can't coach defense the majority of posters have merely stated it can't be taken for granted.

The play calling MLB was gashed all year BEFORE his injury.

How can I have a strawman when I am responding directly to a post that makes the arguments I am rebutting?

Which Mike? Because we played two of them. And maybe one of the reasons for Morrison being gashed is that we had guards getting out on him after Easley went down and Jacobs also missed time, leaving us with only two defensive tackles to play 50+ snaps a game. Tends to happen. But let's write him off, too. This is fun. How many coaches and payers can we discredit just to belittle Muschamp?

IMO you expanded the statement to include everyone who disagrees with you about Muschamp, I guess you are correct and that is closer to a false dichotomy. Point taken.

The amount of plays per game were pretty much even so this is really kind of overblown. We were pretty good on defense considering our injuries and attrition.

No, that wasn't my intent. Hey, I can understand the reservations about Muschamp given what happened last year and I certainly think Foley would have been justified in firing him. I pretty much think Muschamp would have understood, too. But I think it is highly irrational to attempt to malign what is a well-recognized and acknowledged strength just to discredit him as a whole.

I think Muschamp is a good defensive mind. My fear is that while we are highlighting the recruiting woes on offense we also need to be aware of recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. If Lane goes elsewhere I think we survive. If we don't get much at LB, DE, or OL this year I think 2014 and 2015 might not live up to our hopes.

The Vanderbilt game is what did it for me, on Home Coming no less. At that point it was more a mental thing than physical and I was of the opinion that Muschamp had lost the team and needed to go. Foley thinks otherwise and I have decided to support that decision, like I have a choice, and move forward with optimism for next year. There were so many things that happened last season it is hard to pinpoint the primary factor as it may have been a collaboration of all of them. Sometimes you just have to put it behind you and move on.

Our opponents averaged 59 plays per game, we ran 65 plays per game. The FBS average is somewhere around 70 plays per game.

At the end of the regular season our defense had defended the fourth fewest plays in all of FBS. But our total defense was lower than many of those teams that had defended fewer plays.

The defense was good, but not as good as the total stats would suggest. When you look at total numbers, we were a top ten defense last year. When you look at per play numbers, we drop to tail end of the top 25. Still good, but not great.
