He squandered a 23 point lead against scUM. If he had won that, who knows what that might have led to.

And our struggles began under SOS began in 1999, after the last of his defensive recruits left after the 1998 season (Zook left in January, 1996). Stoops didn't recruit defense as well, IMO...

C'mon. I was at that game. When Ingle went down with that concussion, Strong put the defense in prevent mode and Brock had one of the great comeback performances in modern CFB history. Miami was clearly the better team, and Zook nearly stole a win. We were two TD underdogs in the OB.

It is interesting that for all the times Zook would lose to teams he should have beaten, he actually lost to only two teams that finished with a worse record than Florida's: the 2002 loss to Ole Miss, which I put on Rex, and the 2004 Miss State game, which is inexcusable. The only other loss where the opponent had an identical record was LSU in 2002, but when we played them, they were at full strength. They had multiple injuries on the team later in the year, including their QB, and lost 4 of their last 6 games. All other losses were to teams that finished with better records than Florida.

Zook wasn't a great coach, but he was also damned unlucky.

Yep, he did have terrible luck, that's for sure...

Odds were stacked against him from the beginning too...

How did this thread turn from Driskell to Zook? Anyway, JD has taken some heat, but as others have said, not like the heat JB, or even CL, took. Really, none of the kids deserve any vitriole unless they steal laptops. Unfortunately, this stuff comes with the territory. He mad some bad throws in some critical situations, but the guy looked pretty good at times. He's getting better, as is the entire offense. He still needs some experience, and some better line play, but it may click for him any week. I still say he needs about 70% read option at this time.

Simple: When we lost an important rivalry game that we should have won and the QB had a poor outing.

It's not right by any means but that's the measure of our fan base on this board more often than not. All the toys come out of the pram rather than having a measured response and discipline to view it as a game rather than a career. It's all 'grrrr!' and 'rah rah rah'. Very predictable and a little embarrassing when you think how it must look to other fanbases.

The bye week certainly hasn't helped. Beat UT this week and many of those posters might move on, but more likely, will continue to beat their drums on the Driskel-hate wagon. They'll do the same for Grier at some point, even if they can't see it now. It's the way they think and it won't change, sadly. The clever thing about prognosticating doom is that at some point, you'll probably be proven right and I guess some people love that kind of validation.

Not sure how long he was here. Not sure if he would catch the reference. Sort of like jetpacks, laser beams and Thanksgiving at Saban's...

Maybe it is time to bring back jetpacks, laser beams and Thanksgiving at Saban's ... the board is becoming less than ideal for any actual football talk ...
