    Since Oklahoma locked the last one due to bickering, it's time for a new one. In your DeSantistan news today, man who was arrested for impersonating a police officer and has no higher education experience whatsoever was just made president of South Florida State College. Why? He's a Republican politician and DeSantis ally. Is this where I complain about "merit"?
    Legislator with no higher education experience tapped to lead South Florida State College
    State Rep. Fred Hawkins, R-St. Cloud, was selected Wednesday by South Florida State College trustees to succeed retiring school President Thomas Leitzel.

    Hawkins, who has served in the House since 2020, was the lone finalist for the position. Details of Hawkins’ proposed contract will not be available until a June 21 meeting of the trustees, a South Florida State College spokesperson said.

    Hawkins served from 2008 to 2020 on the Osceola County Commission. But Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended him in July 2020 after Hawkins was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer. Hawkins went on to get elected to the House in November 2020.

    During a special legislative session this year, Hawkins sponsored a high-profile bill that was a priority of DeSantis. The bill gave DeSantis authority to appoint the board of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District, which also was renamed the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. The change came amid a festering feud between DeSantis and The Walt Disney Co., which had long benefited from the Reedy Creek district.

    It’s weird when people oppose fascism. The moderators say both parties are bickering. I believe in right and wrong. I think Desantis and Trump are deep into the wrong. Even if they claim they are anti abortion when they aren’t the potential father.

    Thanks for starting this thread. 47-19, Paredes 6 RBIs, Randy plate discipline. In such a great mood I can even handle reading about the attacks on the state and nation by these small men

    Only the best..smdh...and they will probably pay him 2x what the previous guy got. Disgusted the way florida legislature empowered the midget madman to become a defacto dictator

    Completely understand the outrage. So who gives a shi- is in charge of a state college with enrollment of 2500 and that is a moral outrage. Dudes with dic-s taking national championships away from a woman is totally cool. Yawn.

    Another anti-education Republican showing his true colors. Small colleges are part of Florida's system of higher education, too. But you keep your attention focused on the random swimmers with penises and keep us updated every year or two, OK?

    Randy Fine is on the list to become president of FAU which has 25k students and is a major university in the state, but you're more focused on swimming

    Ronnie D. really putting his priorities out there. Renaming a base from Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg. Apparently, we've done an egregious wrong by stripping the base name away from a traitor who was also a notoriously inept general and viciously cruel to his men. These weirdos sure do fetishize the Confederacy.

    C'mon, how does undermining the education of thousands of students at a college really compare to a trans person winning a trophy in a sport? That trophy is life or death.

    Fort Bragg had been named in honor of Braxton Bragg, a Confederate general who was relieved of command after losing the battle for Chattanooga in 1863.

    Inspirational. I can see why they named one of the largest military installations in the country after him.
