I have to say that I have been a little more than concerned that so many of your present football players are leaving to take their talents somewhere else. Perhaps, and I hope it is true, they feel that with the talent on the team and the talent coming in, that they stand little chance of getting any playing time next season. That being said, Dalvin Cook has been very secretive lately on who he will commit to during the Under Armour game this Thursday. If he announces he has changed his commitment to another team, what message it that sending about the football program at the University of Florida?

Hope Cook comes to UF, but the program's image will not be further tarnished by one HS kid.

If he decides to go to Tally, it has more to do with them being the top dog in the state. That's the price you pay for 4-8.

First off: Florida will survive a 5 star recruit de-committing or looking elsewhere. Yes, we need him and he'd be a welcome (and valuable) addition to our team next year; but the University and it's football program are bigger than any one recruit and/or player. We've been good before, we'll be good again.

BUT...I do hear, at least in some part, what you're saying. Right now, the public perception is that Florida is in bad shape coming off a horrible season, a coach that's definitely on the hotseat next year, and amid yet another coaching change on the offensive side of the ball. Losing one of our biggest recruits in the middle of that (especially if he goes to a rival) will only further that perception.

If we are in fact being hustled by a kid who continues to do Gator chomps at the UA all star game, and who indicates that he is still committed to the program all the way up to him doing a cheap drama "flipping" of his commitment at halftime on January 02, I would say that he will be thought of as an immature, attention-seeking . . . fool . . . far longer than we will be thought of as a "down" football program.

Moreover, whatever he does, life will go on, and it will be good, at the University of Florida.

If we are not being hustled and the kid sticks to his word, more power to him for understanding what giving your word means, and in spite of all the antics.

Methinks it's a little beyond "perception" at this point

Cook already decommitted once before committing to UF. So I think the message is that Cook has a tough time making up his mind.

How about waiting for National Signing Day to decide if Muschamp's predicament had any effect in recruiting. My prediction is that it will have some impact but overall we will land our share of players. Now if all the OLinemen decide to stay away then THAT is going to mean something pretty soon.

If you guys get Cook and Lane you'll be in the top 10 classes. If FSU gets both of them we will be likely top 5.
It's long been my thought that ratings are just not an exact science and a range of consistent top 10 - top 20 will suffice. Better than top 10 probably does make some difference though not as much as development. No stats here at all just opinions.

Honestly, would Cook stand a better chance of significant playing time next year at UF, or at FSU? We're already crowded back there with Taylor and Jones coming back and while FSU returns their leading rushers as well, they'll all be seniors next year while Taylor is going to be one year ahead of Cook for all but his last year. Now, he may be good enough to take carries away from Taylor and/or Jones next year, but he would get more PT during his 1st 3 years at FSU as compared to UF. Sure hope he comes here, but if not, agree with the poster above that his actions this week (and the last few weeks) that he's committed to UF, doing the chomp, etc.,. is pretty shwarmy.

    Agree.

My position on Cook remains the same. He has game-breaking ability, and has the ability to turn close games that go down to the wire in favor of whatever team gets him. But games are both won and lost at the line of scrimmage. I feel that the bigger picture suggests that we should be hoping for at least somebody to break out at defensive tackle, and this offense will again be mediocre-at best-if the offensive line continues to perform the way it has, regardless of whether or not Cook strings together a few highlight-reel plays in orange and blue next season.

This is in no way meant to diminish his value, nor is it sour grapes; I actually think we get the kid. But aside from all the drama, Florida has far more pressing issues going into next season than whether or not we land Dalvin Cook-or Lane, for that matter.

Cook would jump Matt quick and push Kelvin for the starting job. Kid is explosive!! KT is good don't get me wrong but Cook will be the better of the two IMO.

Jones is coming off a fairly severe injury. One he'll recover from, but he's not expected to take part in spring drills and who knows how long it will take for him to return to 100%.

Dalvin has a chance to come in right away and get significant action.
