"Old- contribute to your hearts content- my problem is that dems want to tell me who to contribute to and how much to contribute"

I understand that grievance very well. And that many others have same grievance. And that during GOP dominated years other people end up having same grievance because pendulum swings the other way. In recent years due to greater polarity between parties the Dem dominated years the policies go to far to the left(shocked by that statement I bet...but I see it and believe it to be happening). And during GOP dominated years the pendulum swings too far the other way.

This situation is entirely analogous to a human body swinging back and forth from a blood sugar of 10(verge of death level with blood sugar to low) to a blood sugar of 1500(blood level so high that death is likely) with little time in the healthy range of blood sugar. the result being that the body is really messed up and suffers in short and long term.

The main thing is that the mad pendulum swing back and forth from ultra lib to ultra con in our nations policies with very little time in the healthy range for our country be addressed. IMO, that can only be achieved by compromise between the two parties, perhaps a third party becoming major force, and greater voice from independents and moderates to counter the rhetoric from ultra left and ultra right that has dominated the last 20+ years. I sense the American voters, mainly moderates sense this when there is a change from GOP to Dem admins and vice versa after 8 years for ultra policy (right or left) to drive America into the critical area of being simply too far out there.

I started these 3 threads to try to get away from the name calling and more into discussion of solutions, etc rather than gotchas

two people on a life boat are stuck out of sight of land with food running out.
and one says to row East
and the other says to row West
    neither was willing to yield
    both end up dead

the problem with compromise in our political system is that the dems never and I mean NEVER move to the right, it is always the pubs who have to move left- the current immigration bill passed by the Senate is a prime example

this way of thinking by the pubs is why I am a registered independent

I would tell them to look around you. If you believe the governement should confiscate others hard earned money and give it to others to make a permenaent uinder-class, then vote Democratic.

If you hate this country for what it's done TO you and want to see it taken down, then vote Democratic.

If you think that that the government spying on you to eliminate competition, disarming you so you can't defend yourself and controlling your health care so they can tell who lives and dies and when, then vote Democratic.

If you believe in corruption, lying, stealing and elitism, then vote Democratic.

If you love your country and hate seeing what the Democratics party and liberals have done to it, then vote Conservative.

If you have an ever increasing sense of fear for you children and grandchildren that they will not grow up to be free, then vote Conservative.

    my argument would be....

vote republican to appear to be bipartisan. they are really just a bunch of democrats anyway. so, heads you win, tails you win. and you can claim that you are fair minded because you are willing to support either side

I like the quote from Thomas Sowell

"Why is it greedy for me to want to keep what I earn, but it is not greedy when others want to take what I earn?"

considering how laughably bad Sowell often is, that doesn't speak well of today political philosophy.

that's one of the problems today: People praise insulting the other side as though it were intelligent thought.

I'd probably make an argument like this:

    <script src="http://player.ooyala.com/player.js?embedCode=1sMGllNTpZDgv6-RW9FLKeYbahZhPVBf&width=600&deepLinkEmbedCode=1sMGllNTpZDgv6-RW9FLKeYbahZhPVBf&video_pcode=9kcm06PtVGNZkFkXR2898mHnBha_&height=337"></script>

Umm, no. If you're comparing any U.S. president to Hitler, as Sowell has done, you're pretty much a clueless partisan, or else just a shuckster playing to an extremely gullible audience.
