He died too easy. And no one should protest his funeral. No one should show up even. And frankly, they shouldn't cover it. You'd be making him a "martyr" and "persecuted" figure to his idiotic followers, which is exactly what he would've wanted. He should fade into memory as nothing more than another lunatic hiding behind a supposed mission.

Doubt it but you never know. His church, or cult, or whatever you want to call it was composed of him, his children and grandchildren. One of his kids will probably take on his role. I would imagine his kids were the ones doing most of the work in his later years so his death just removes the face of the group.

This man was obviously a tortured soul. Let him rest in peace. To show up with signs, posting vile crap, etc., just shows you are no different than he was. He hated what he hated as much as some of you on here hate him.

I will not let anyone ever get me to the point again where I hate them. It is a very strong emotion. Like the dark side of the Force.

He has had his meeting with the ultimate Judge. We'll find out someday how that went.

At the very least, I highly suspect he has been set straight on the issue of methodology. Protesting at the funerals of military heroes is disgusting and misguided.

He's proof that even the tiniest faction can get outsized messaging , reknown or infamy if you are willing to get right up to the very edge of some serious lines and break taboos. Whether that really helped his cause is highly doubtful.

Making someone posthumously gay must be like when the Mormons posthumously baptize people. But I wonder what happens when someone is both Mormonized and rendered gay in the afterlife?

you had to ruin it. this has been a thread totally non partisan in content. everyone seems to be in agreement. then you go and put in your two cents and ruin it.

I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be Fred Phelps standing before God as He judged all of the despicable things done by Phelps and Co.

I understand how you guys feel. Just be consistent when Pelosi or her ilk dies and I show no sympathy. I know when Teddy died I felt the same way. Good riddance.

candyman: what part are you missing here? conservatives here are NOT lamenting his passing either, so it's NON partisan.

Candyman's post was confusing to me. No one on this thread expressed any sadness over Phelps' death. He wrote:
Then it occurred to me. Maybe it's candyman who is saddened over Phelps' death and he is unhappy that no one on the thread is expressing sympathy towards or with those who mourn Phelps. Otherwise, I have no idea what is going through his mind. o_O

No joy. Just not saddened either. I think that's normal given the targets of his ire.
