Im also from NSB and remember seeing Wes play every home Friday night. I graduated in 80 so i was a few years behind him but i remember those days well. I also remember the district showdown with NSB and Astronaut and Collinsworth was a force. Great to see UF bring Wes back for this he is certainly one of the all time great Gators.

Those who remember him may recall he was the 3rd player taken in the draft coming out of UF. Played with Archie Manning with the Saints, when the Saints were horrible. With the Chargers in 1982, when the NFL went on strike and only played 8 games with regular players, Wes was the only receiver in the league with over 1000 yds. He averaged 129 yds a game that year, which is still an NFL record. Amazing talent

Loved watching Chandler play for the Gators. I remember those plays in the YouTube video well.

I'd say he and Tony Green (with Nat Moore 3rd) were the best I've ever seen at UF for faking guys "right out of their jockstraps" The Ike Hilliard move against FSU was one of the all-time best "jock removals", but I don't remember him doing that kind of thing regularly. Maybe my memory needs some jogging from YouTube

I'd put Chandler, Harvin and Alvarez as the 3 best WR's ever at UF, with Collinsworth alone at 4th.

Chandler did have great hands as did Alvarez (and Duane Dixon). Seems like Harvin dropped one or two passes in his day, but nobody was ever as fast over 10 to 20 yards as Harvin or ever made would-be tacklers look slower (right up there with Capel even though Harvin doesn't have near that kind of high-end Olympic-sprinter speed).

Chandler was a pretty good RB, too, but IMO Harvin was All-American quality as either a WR or a RB. (And, probably would have been consensus AA if he had only played one of those positions IMO - although I agree with the hybrid way we played him)

I'd love to have any of them. But, gun to my head, I'd probably take Harvin.

The run against Auburn was one of the best ever. He was so smooth that compared to him a babies butt seems like sand paper.

Re: the bolded part, agreed, but at least the folks who show up will be the hard core fans who are the ones who appreciate older players like WC the most anyways.

Now here's maybe a topic for its own thread (on a really, REALLY boring day), but if the "Guest Mr. 2 Bits" routine is continued (and I really hope it is), when the day comes that the Old Ball Coach has been retired from coaching for a few years, should he get an invite to be 2 Bits? If so, will he accept? If he does, will he be welcomed back with open arms?

I say yes, yes and yes.

LMAO! I am like Ray Charles on that one: I can't see it happening.

The UGA or Tennessee games would top my list for his appearance.

Second all time fav gator for me (after Marshall). If he had played in a passing offense he would have put up incredible numbers. I still recall a punt return, with Chandler leaving defenders grasping for air.

I love having the honorary Mr Two Bits. Who is picking them? Is there any intentional matching of the person with the opponent?
