Why is Grover Cleveland a thing all of a sudden? I think that's the third reference to him in two days? Meanwhile, speaking of which, it's funny to imagine the circus it would be right now if the Tenure of Office Act was still in effect.

As for my reference, I was just trying to go as far back as I could where I was confident I or anyone else didn't know the answer. And even though I looked up the answer, it already escapes me again. That's how forgettable the guy was. Plus, the name Grover always makes me chuckle.

Yeah but what about the Tenure of Office Act, though? I'm still entertaining myself with that thought. Imagine, all the same Dems who beat up on a nominee during confirmation would be staunchly defending him or her against being dismissed. And vice-versa, of course.

James Blaine- but the only reason I know it was because I did a report on Grover Cleveland in 11th grade US History

I thought Grover Cleveland was a baseball player. Did he later become president?

Grover Cleveland Alexander is the baseball player (or was, he's long dead).

I believe he was center fielder for the White Sox.

I thought he was a pitcher, back in the dead ball era (before livelier balls and steroids).

If you're basing that off CNN reporting--you might want to verify it first.;)

You're right. I checked because I also recalled that he was a pitcher. Turns out we both have good memories or at least are knowledgeable about baseball trivia.

He would have gotten us further entrenched in a middle east war...

Where was all that press "love" when he was running for Prez against Obama? Sorry but this fake love (IMO) is a poke at Trump.

McCain had plenty of love until he saddled himself with Palin. As soon as she started talking, it was all over.

Several people who voted for McCain when he was running for prez now call him a traitor a RINO and sully his soldier status by attacking the fact that he was captured. That's worse than your "fake love" accusation.

What's funny is that even though Palin clearly lost him any chance in that election, many on the right ran around defending her and abandoned McCain.

Her biggest problem is she has the intellectual curiosity of a box of rocks so she was completely uninformed on most every topic a national leader would need to understand. But she is cute and served up a few red meat slogans that the Pub base liked so they gravitated to her.

Don't necessarily disagree with you except …… that we should recognize McCain was just one of many who served in the military in SE Asia and suffered greatly as a result f that service. Personally, I've known quite a few VN era vets with SE Asia service …… some of whom did not fair as well as McCain. One close friend during my college years was a Huey gunship gunner who was paralyzed (losing one lower leg) as a result of his ship being downed by VC gunfire. Others, some of whom have passed, lived experiences that were in many ways just as bad as McCain's; some still suffer from those experiences, today.

John McCain has accomplished much in his life and has done many good things. However, plaudits should be "managed" and issued in the context of what has happened over the last 60 years.

Even though I disagree with some of what John McCain said and did ….. I believe he is an honorable man … and well meaning. Unfortunately …. age has "caught up" with Senator McCain …. as it will with all of us.

Agree Palin was a poor choice for VP.

However, let's not forget that many on the left, ie democrats, who are now fawning adoration over John McCain as a statesman and war hero ….. demonized him as an "old white man" who was "out of touch with the needs of a modern America", when he ran for PotUS.
