At least make a public address stating we support their cause. Heck, even John McCain is taking it upon himself as he traveled to Kiev's main square. The Ukraine is a, perhaps the pivotal piece in Putin's puzzle.

Asked about Russian president Vladimir Putin's role in the crisis, McCain said: “There's no doubt that Ukraine is of vital importance to Putin. I think it was [Henry] Kissinger, I'm not sure, said that Russia, without Ukraine it's an eastern power, with Ukraine it's a western power. This is the beginning of Russia, right here in Kiev. So Putin views it as most highly important and he has put pressure on Ukrainians – the price of energy, different kinds of activities.”

The only reason this is even an issue is because the Russians (under Stalin in the 1930s) deported millions of the native population and transplanted native Russians to the area...and those descendants are, unsurprisingly, the ones who favor close ties with Russia and speak Russian, not Ukranian.

    Maybe fine
The last thing we need to do is give them some idea we are going to intervene. Mainly because we're not. If we want to say we believe their cause is just that's fine.

So this was the Secret agreement (recorded in a meeting between Obama and Medvedev) that Obama gave the last puppet leader of Russia to give to Putin before Putin regained dictatorship.... I'll see what I can do....

Hi. I live in Ukraine and oppose Yanukovych. Whatever it was, but this does not give people the power to live. People are just trying to survive and exist. All financial flows are concentrated in their hands. Corruption is terrible, police are real bandits. Beggarly wages and pensions. I know that in Europe, too, is not sugar, but we can not live in this way no longer.

My page on facebook facebook.com/sergiy.melnik.75 Thank you.

Don't get me wrong: it's a step in the right direction for the Administration--but it is valid to point out that this isn't the first time they've doddled on such decisions.

I don't know, making bold statements without much thought or waiting to see what develops seems to be far worse, IMO.

The protests started in November...and the violence started about a month ago.

Worse: doddling isn't exactly uncommon with this Administration. They doddled during Iran's Green Revolution; doddled during the Arabic Spring; doddled with Libya; and doddled on what to do/say on Syria too.

At a certain point, "waiting to see what develops" starts to look like ineffectual and confused foreign policy.

Yeah, it looks ineffectual to people who used words like "doddling." Which may be just you because "dawdling" is the actual word. ;)

What's so eerie is how close and on point Tom Clancy's new book is to the current events taking place.
