    From the article:
"The sensational case was used by highly placed antimarijuana officials to steer the debate over whether marijuana was safe, including Federal Bureau of Narcotics Commissioner Harry Anslinger, who cited the Licata case often in pushing for the passage of the Marihuana Tax Act.

He was successful, despite the fact that Licata was later diagnosed with "Dementia Praecox with homicidal tendencies" at the Florida Hospital for the Insane, and doctors did not mention his marijuana usage. It was also learned that his family had a long history of mental illness, and Licata had been identified as mentally ill long before the murder."

    Definitely enlightening.

Anybody who thinks that ALL m.j. smokers necessarily exhibit laid back, docile, doughnut eating tendencies as a result of contemporaneous smoking, or that ALL m.j. smokers NEVER indicate an oppositional-defiant attitude as a result of chronic smoking . . . especially juveniles . . . are seriously deluded and are not familiar with the scientific studies.

Not saying refer madness is fo' real, but there is a much wider variation of the effects of m.j. on the individual, which in turn depends on a number of variables, than the laid-back, munchie advocates would have you believe.

While pot smokers generally are docile, one of the side effects of pot use is paranoia.

Is it possible Trayvon's marijuana induced paranoia caused him to overreact to being watched by Zimmerman, thus leading to his attack?

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not after you (and your skittles).

Anyone that thinks any drug has but one effect on everyone must be bogarting the fatty.

Back in the day we would talk about killer weed, but not in the same context as the guy in this article. I remember showing Reefer Madness when I worked at the Royal Park in the 70's. It was a government propaganda movie that was funny as hell. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw this article. Of course it was a much better movie when you are stoned. At least thats what they told me.

You can find them, if you are really interested. They are not hidden.

Think about the etymology of "assassin" for instance.

That said, as a psychotropic substance, pot is far more benign than alcohol.

The streets of Seattle have been running red with blood since Washington legalized marijuana. You can watch them throw a fish without someone trying to kill you. It's crazy!

one of the things that is left out of commentary regarding pot is the concentration of THC in the bloodstream over a prolonged period of time.

There are numerous medications/drugs that have different effects depending on the concentration/dosage. Even some psych meds have one type of effect on mood, etc at one dosage range and can have exact opposite effect on mood, etc at a different dosage range.

THC is one such drug/medication that varies greatly in effect on mood, etc when dosage range is changed..

This is extremely pertinent to discussions of pot that try to claim same effects today as the pot of 20-50 years ago. When in fact the dosage range has been altered greatly due to selective breeding of pot in order to get a higher concentration of THC per joint
