I think we are 6-2 this year. Billy must have gone to a "how to win close game" clinic this summer or something. Maybe from Jim Boeheim?

And UF did this without Prather. A lot to learn and gain from winning on the road in a close game in OT without your full bench.

We're in the Final Four in '11 and '12 with a guy like DFS. Probably a ship in '11. He's a complete game changer on the glass.

If we can stay healthy, we're going to the Final Four this year. Book it.

Scottie has really been the difference in games down the stretch. It has made a big difference to be able to give him the ball and we know he is the guy who is going to have the ball. He can get his own shot and he has done a very nice job in those moments this year.

For us in some past season with close games (or at the end of halves), too many times we didn't even get a shot off. I mean, it's a reality.

With Scottie controlling it in these moments, that is not nearly as likely to happen. We truly have a guy who we can give it to down the stretch in these moments who can get us a legitimate shot. Love it.

Last year we were dinged because we didn't win any close games.

This year we are dinged for winning a bunch of them and only losing two.

Maybe some year we will only win a few without a close loss.

Did Brockway say something wrong? I actually believe he is one of the few beat writers in the South who is not cowed by the coach of the team he covers. kinda refreshing. Maybe he will end up in a major market.

Now you did it. Boy are you about to get abused on here. This crowd is very anti Brockaway. Peace be with you my friend.

Brockway has proven to be an idiot for other reason. Specifically to your comment, the "games won be less than 10 digits" stat tells you nothing. He tried to use it as justification that Billy is bad at late game situations when that is not the case at all.

Really good game. I only caught the last few minutes of regulation and overtime. Love the ball in scottie's hands in the last seconds. He's so under control and usually ends up getting off a good shot.

Brockway, if I remember right, has been giving the gators credit for close wins this year.

Gee, I wonder why? The guy does no off-season work, he doesn't cover recruiting, he blatantly steals his data without attribution (I guarantee you he didn't compile the under-six point games of all the major coaches in recent college history), and never actually provides insight into the game, instead serving up statistics that an eight-year old could read in a box score. Brockway is one of the reasons Florida has such terrible hoops coverage. We get more insight from Bilas and Katz than we ever get from him. Could you imagine ESPN ever calling him up the way they did Aschoff?

I don't mean to denigrate the guy personally and I probably wouldn't care if he weren't so cavalier in his opinions and criticisms without ever justifying them.

Winning close games are a matter of luck. We have been unlucky the past few seasons. For most teams, it balances out over the course of a season. For us it tends to be all or nothing like our two title seasons.

We're not just a jump shooting team anymore. We're less reliant on the three and that gives us more options to win close games.

I'd like to see us improve in that area, but not at the expense of Prather, Patric and DFS' production around the basket.

Scottie has developed into an elite crunch time playmaker, too. He always seems to come up with a bucket or a steal when it's most needed.

Yeah, I was a bit miffed at Scottie for his play in the second half but he came through when we really needed him.

Winning close games is more than luck. It is poise down the stretch and having a playmaker who wants the ball in his hands at crunch time. Scottie is that playmaker for the Gators this year. In years past, we didn't have one who wasn't simply an outside jump shooter. Scottie is a driver and has shown some resiliency at the foul line when the game is on the line. The poise is the result of having a bunch of seniors on the floor who have been there before in hostile environments and who never get shaken. Add to that the leadership of Billy D on the bench making adjustments and calling plays at the key moments and it adds up to a recipe for success. I love this team.

Thankfully, there will be some teaching moments as a result of this game. Always better when those moments happen in a game that is in the win column.
