Mercer with the bucket! UF by 4!
Agreed! Critical rebounds, shots, and a steal.
If UF can hit their FTs with 42 sec left, they can get this win (ugly but still a win).
Man Peoples :-\ Please hit your 2nd FT attempt.
Edit: Okay, Bonds to save the day..
Edit: Adams with a 3 pointer *ugh*! Bad, bad, bad defense by UF on Adams.... UF by 3 pts with 29 sec to go.
14 s to go, UF up by 3 55-52... UF has the ball out of the timeout.
Phew!! When you can beat a borderline top 25 team when you don't play that well really - this has got to give the team almost as much confidence as the big win at UK.
Ballgame! UF wins (ugly) against Arkansas. 59-52 Woo!
Also at least UF hit some critical FTs very late in the game to help with the win.
Happy for Butler and the team. 3-0 in conference play, don't think many would have predicted that.
It's been 16 yrs since they last did it. Hopefully UF continues to improve this season under Amanda's coaching.
They've got to go into Baton Rouge to play LSU next. Eek! Then again I thought the same when they went to play UK so hopefully they'll find some way to get another win on the road against a tough SEC team.
Best conference start in 15 years....back to back wins over Top 25 teams (Coachs Poll)... supposedly a decent crowd showing.... good night even if it wasn't pretty. It only gets harder though @LSU next.
Yeah, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee... not any easy schedule with LSU and UTenn on the road. Oh well, can't say they won't be tested (it is the SEC after all).
LSU just lost at home to Texas A&M in a close game. Long term that is great for us since we play both teams once...LSU away and Texas A&M at home. Short term could be good or bad. They could have a bit of a hangover or they could come out mad and focused.
As much as I would like the "hangover" possibility, I'm pretty confident it will be the "mad and focused" version of LSU that UF will play next. *sigh*
To answer some of your comments and some thoughts:
Peoples was not cold. She could not have hit water if she fell out of the boat. We win the opening tip and within 15 seconds she throws up an air ball from beyond the arc and it went down hill from there. With the clock winding down in the first half she elected to dribble around the final 10 seconds and throws up a wild ass shot that no hope of going in when there were other players open. I think that she was 0 for 9 in the first half...
Jackson and Adams probably scored 90% of Arky's points and we just did not seem interesting in guarding either of them...
Crowd was not that big. Pretty typical crowd but yet the cheer boys insist in doing the Orange and Blue cheer with a mostly empty O-Dome. That cheer works pretty good in a full football stadium but not so much in an empty O-Dome.
Sevete was hitting everything during warm ups and it was nothing but air balls when it counted. She still is not strong enough to hold a rebound as she had a couple ripped out of her hands by Arky players.
Williams was pretty much invisible in this game. Not much PT in the first half and two quick fouls in the second half. I think she scored 2 points in the game. But that is pretty typical of a freshman player.
Lots of sloppy play from both teams. Lots of you said this was an ugly win. That would be an insult to ugly people everywhere! But, I'll give them credit. This is the kind of game that they usually lose but they fought through all of the sloppy to pick up the win.
Considering how much we have struggled in Women's BB over recent times, I really do not understand hown you can be this negative about a win over a top 25 team by a team that is off to its best start in 16 years. n Give it a break!
Women's basketball sometimes isn't the prettiest sport to watch unless you are watching UConn....Tennessee, UK, South Carolina....I have seen them all play ugly games but a win is a win.
Stop being such a whiner. It's my opinion and observations so if you don't like what I have to say then tough beans.
I am just making observations that ANYONE who knows anything about basketball would make. And given all of the years that I have played the sport, they are pretty easy to see.
So for those who want to see gloom and doom, wow... we could have easily lost this one!
For those who want to look for progress, this is a game we probably would have lost last year.
3-0, in two way tie for 1st in SEC, nice start!
We all know it probably won't last... but in the immortal words of Nuke LaLoush "Winning is like, you know, better than losing!"
Did not see this start coming. What does it usually take to get in the tournament? Around .500 or a little better in conference play?
Those more in the know than me have said they think a .500 conf record with a couple upsets should do it. I was going to looks at the rest of the schedule to see what the odds are of us doing that. I think the UK win helped a lot, but they just lost again, so maybe they weren't as good as advertised.
