Walmart is increasing its starting wage rate for hourly employees in the U.S. to $11, after passage of the tax law.
    • The company said it will also expand maternity and parental leave benefits, and provide a one-time cash bonus for eligible employees of as much as $1,000.
    • Walmart said it's still looking at other "potential additional investments" that could come after the new tax laws. More working people benefiting from Trumps tax cut.

I'm glad for people getting raises. But it's also closing dozens of Sam's Clubs around the country

This is to keep up with Target’s wage increases.

You have to have 20 years of service to get the grand.

They also are shuttering stores—including the Sam’s by my house.

Agreed, owners prerogative, but Walmart also timed the wage announcement to offset the news about the closures. It certainly wasn't a coincidence. Good news for many, bad news for some, and Walmart gets to bury what would have otherwise been a bad lead. PR 101.

And I'm staying away from the whole fluffer thing.

I get this but how many Sams clubs and Walmart grocery stores are they opening nationwide. There is one opening near me soon. I suspect their overall employment will be up this year.

Most of their expansion capital is being plowed into e-commerce and remodels. Think they are opening about 15 super centers and a dozen grocery stores this year (while also shuttering a number of each). Not sure how many clubs are opening. Not many would be my guess.

no one's saying otherwise. but it's kind of silly to only look at half of what Walmart did today just to pump up Trump.

So two of the dozen being opened this year are within 20 miles of me. It could be true but sounds like its nonsense.

After looking online and not finding much it seems like your numbers are close to correct for the state of Florida not for the nation. Lol

They are also opening many new stores in states with population growth like Arizona. I suspect they are closing stores in the rust belt and opening new ones where population is increasing.
