Hopefully he kicks better than anything we have now.

@ZachAbolverdi: According to his Twitter (@b_abbott17) former Virginia Tech kicker Brooks Abbott is transferring to #UF, reportedly as a preferred walk-on.

Awesome news, at the very least we can get some competition going but the kids long this year was 47 yards...on that alone he's the front-runner

At this point I'd take Curly, Larry or Moe.

Heck, I'd take Curly Joe if he could kick straight.

    Don't disagree with you, but....

    Man.

When and how did we get to a place where a report of somebody walking on as a kicker qualifies as "awesome news" around here? :(

Bingo! I think the kickers we have are very capable, and that includes the punters.

He didn't play in 2013, so he should be able to kick immediately. His intent to transfer was first announced back in August.

Why is he transferring? That's the million dollar question.

A bit off-topic but I have a buddy who to this day occasionally pops off about what he thinks was one of the stupidest things that ever happened - that the Dolphins had a kicking coach for several years who was a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair. Personally I never found that hard to understand at all. At the NFL level or even in college, I'm pretty sure they are past coaching the basic mechanics of how to approach the ball and swing your leg. Being consistently successful at that level is totally a mental / psychological thing, and I imagine a guy in a wheelchair might be as good as anyone at coaching you up on maintaining self-assuredness in the face of adversity.

Didn't Beamer kick him off the Va Tech team? Never mind, I was thinking of another player.

As long as he can see and speak, he can coach.

Which position do you suggest we not have coached? There is a limit to the staff

Don't think that matters; you sit out AFTER you transfer.

Tyler Moore transferred after sitting a year out and played right away. As for what position coach should be let go to have a kicker coach, I am sure Bama had an "analyst" thy covers just this sort of thing.

If there is a problem at a position, such as placekicker this past season, wouldn't it be wise for the head coach to devise a solution?

You can make an argument that placekicking cost us one game this year. What happens if that number rises to two or three?
