Hopefully we can just talk about Tyler in this thread I know it is hard for some of you but please try

During preseason camp this year I was watching one of the videos Gatorzone was posting and in the background I saw Murphy and Leak working on Tyler's footwork on drop backs and moving in the pocket after practice. I remember thinking this is a kid that really understands that he is one play away from being the starting QB and he is preparing that way.

Yesterday Tyler was asked about his pocket presence and he said "I work a lot on my footwork with Chris leak and coach Peace" he also went on to talk about how playing scout team helped him.

Tyler talking about working with Leak and Pease on his footwork at the 7.55 mark

He prepares really hard for these games. I guarantee when he's not physically practicing this week, he'll be mentally practicing in the film room, or watching film at home. He picks up on the defenses during the games because he has spent so much time understanding the little details. Good job Tyler Murphy

He actually reminds me a little of leak and what leak did with the 06 team. Not as many offensive playmakers now but there is just a similarity in that team and this team for me.

I see leak in Tyler on the field. From his throwing motion to his pocket presence to his leadership.

Seems like the "coaching up" on that would be as simple as, either, 1) Throw it just like Drew Brees (like the world is coming to an end if you don't throw it as fast as possible); or 2) throw it like a hand grenade with a two second fuse.

Especially in passes to the flats.

And yes, I will consider walking on as a special consultant to the QB throwing motion coaches.

    Anyway,

    Go Tyler !
    Go Chris !
    Go Coaches !
    Go Gators !

The comparison that struck me was Leak in 2003. Granted, one was a true freshman and the other a fourth-year junior, but both took over as starters of struggling offenses and early in the season. Both are incredibly cool and poised in the pocket, both throw accurate, catchable vertical passes, and maybe most tellingly they both do a great job of moving out of the pocket and keeping their eyes down the field.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, and maybe it's just me, but when I see Murphy throw it really reminds me of Leak with that straight over-hand motion, tight spiral.

Yes, there certainly appears to be a stamp on Tyler's development. Pity he's a 4th year junior...

He seems like a really conscientious guy. I remember in an interview he talked about taking "mental reps" when he wasn't playing. How many backups take their role that seriously??
