I am talking about looking at what the other schools are still recruiting. I am not worried about your class. I am worried about UGA and LSU's class because those two teams are about to have monster years in recruiting to go along with already good rosters.

Lets just say I saw some of those recruits from about 5 yds away over the weekend and they didnt look overly impressive. Could have some potential but not a ton to worry about.

I follow you. It's a given that our roster isn't on par with theirs. Won't be for a few years. But, I couldn't be happier with what Butch is doing. To recruit this well in a program who has had three losing seasons in a row and some off the field problems as well, is pretty good.

I'm sure we won't finish in the #1 spot, but it will be a top 10 class for sure, with the possibility of being in the top 5.

Yes, there were some solid prospects, recruits, and commits that I think will bolster the roster at UT and ultimately raise the level of play at UT.

That is fine you are happy with it I am just saying it aint enough. Doley and Kiffin brought in top 10 classes too You are starting out behind and while this class is big it is doesn't have the talent as some of the other SEC powers will have when it is time to sign the dotted line.

I would agree with that. As it stands right now it looks like the class is solid but lacks the gem of this group that could raise them back to "glory days of old"

Not sure if serious bro. No way in hell I'd take that class, it's not bad but also not as good as ours could be. I would take Hurd, Todd Kelly, booth, and Cortez out of that class. Maybe Eric L. You couldn't pay me to take the whole class. IMO the only reason UT class would be rated above ours come Feb is because of the numbers. They'll have close to 30. I respect the fact that butch has been able to recruit at this rate in his first year though. But trust me, the quality of our class will be better

I'd be willing to bet the Vols finish in the bottom half of the top 10 when it's all said and done in feb. Maybe outta the top ten.

I will believe the quality of our class will be better when I see it happen. I have to see to believe lol don't get me wrong I think Florida's class will be top 7 easily, but Tennessee has put together a great class, and they're still in it for some good prospects. I hope ours is better obviously, but you never know its all cyclical this could be their time to shine.

What do you think they'll finish? I'm telling you right now it'll be in the 7-12 range

    Wow.

Mike Farrell and Dallas Jackson at Yahoo just put out an interesting piece using Rivals numbers. They list the current ranking, and then, based on number of commits, average star rating of the commits, number of players still list ting the school and their ranking, and other historical data, they project the final ranking.

    Here's a few of interest:

UTn Current ranking: 1; Projected Ranking: 8-14
UTx Current ranking: 2; Projected Ranking: 14-22
UKy Current ranking: 3; Projected Ranking: 13-19
scUM Current ranking: 4; Projected Ranking: 23 or better
ND Current ranking: 5; Projected Ranking: 3-6
fsu Current ranking: 6; Projected Ranking: 13-16
Bama Current ranking: 7; Projected Ranking: 1-4
aTm Current ranking: 8; Projected Ranking: 9 or better
UGA Current ranking: 9; Projected Ranking: 8-12
Clem Current ranking: 10; Projected Ranking: 7 or lower
UMich Current ranking: 11; Projected Ranking: 1-5
UMiss Current ranking: 12; Projected Ranking: 25 or lower
OhioS Current ranking: 13; Projected Ranking: 4-8
LSU Current ranking: 14; Projected Ranking: 1-6
ULou Current ranking: 15; Projected Ranking: 33-36
UF Current ranking: 21; Projected Rabking: 5-11
AU Current ranking: 22; Projected Ranking: 10-16
PSU Current ranking: 23; Projected Ranking: 16-55 *not a typo
VU Current ranking: 24; Projected Ranking: 22-31

Pretty interesting. As a researcher, I kind of like the approach. I think its as scientific as you can make something so unscientific. In any event, it just shows that July is not the time for football fans to crow - even about this year's recruiting class.

But then the Vols have always been challenged by the calendar. Due to the Smokey Mountain Plague known as Volsheimers Disease, they have traditionally bragged more in the warmer months than in the cooler ones, when the truly successful programs feel the best about themselves.

If you read the whole thing you would have read the part where it said if we closed out with 1 or 2 more four stars, that's where those projections would be. However, we have already landed 3 more 4* since that article was released, and we are in the hunt for several more plus a possible 5*.

Also, your Volshiemers theory may apply to some, but I'm here year round, including after the games.

I would agree with that and the commitment of 4* LB Gavin Bryant is a hollow one as he is a long shot to qualify and if he does make the grades Bama will flip him anyway. Nevertheless, it stands to be the best class we have signed since '03.

It says that UTn would finish "as low as 14th if it adds another four-star or two." So you say you've added three. That might get you to 13th, or 12th. You don't have that many more 'ships to offer, even if you sign 30. Its gonna be hard to stay in the Top 10, fan.
