    Greg Marshall or Shaka.

    Neither will take that job.

I think it will be Michael White, who has done some nice things at La Tech, plays up-tempo style and has an SEC background.

Dave Hart will be lucky to get an up and coming small school coach. Good luck, University of Don Devoe.

Actually Captain Ahab did a pretty good job at UT. UT's basketball fortunes started dropping when they got the Wade/Allan Houston package deal that forced Devoe out.

    Karma is a bitch.

    Sssh.

He recruited enough talent to Pitt of all places. He put them on the basketball map. First thing I think of when hearing "Pitt" is armpit and Pittsburgh just might be the armpit of the USA.

He recruited enough at UCLA to go to 3 consecutive Final Fours but in two years he had the bad luck to run into a team of destiny, but at UCLA that isn't enough. UCLA is where coaches go to die. I hope that they paid him enough.

He has a track record of achieving and can recruit to a good but not top program at Pitt. UT fits the bill.

Solid coach, but comes off as plain vanilla in TV interviews. That hardly inspires the fan base.

Saying all that I hope that they don't hire him, but if they do I hope that they expect unrealistic results right away. Otherwise UT might become a real thorn in our side more so than during the "Sweaty One's" era and for a lot more years.

^^ Hart has supposedly said he wants an 'up and coming' coach. I am not sure Howland fits that mold, though I do think he would be a very good choice.
I really think it will be White.

Reading between the lines he wants instant success and the best player on the team is probably leaving early. And the best recruit is following the former coach.

I thinking that only an idiot would take that job.

But what kind of intellect would "volunteer" to take a job in Knoxville?

I think coaching at UT would be a good gig, if not for Dave Hart.

The mountains around Knoxville are more fun that the beaches around Los Angeles. Not that the beaches around LA aren't an incredible amount of fun, but the Smokes are utterly fantastic, as well as being the second richest ecosystem on Earth behind on the Amazon.

Ecosystem is one of the top criteria that college coaches look at when considering a job change.

The guys at Volquest are pretty confident that it's White as well and they get info straight from the Associate AD. I want to say the Gary Parrish of CBS just lifted a direct quote from Volquest which is a pay site and tweeted it as though he had landed some scoop. That is highly unethical to say the least...Shaka Smart was never looked at, his name just comes up for every coaching change. Gregg Marshall could have been hired, however, 3 years ago when they hired Martin he was interviewed as well as 9 years ago when he was at Winthrop and they hired Pearl. I guess he didn't appreciate being turned down twice and let it be known he wasn't interested this go around.
