Considering the expected discussion will be very light, I figured one thread only makes sense for the USMNT.

I didn't see the game last night (US vs Denmark) but same old story: Late goals.

To me this is Klinnsman experimenting and trying to hone individuals. I don't think he is concerned with the outcomes. He has his eye on the Gold Cup this summer, Super Copa next year plus CONCACAF qualifying later as well.

The U.S. ranking has plummeted but I still don't see a cause for concern yet. He will buckle down the defense when the games actually matter in my opinion.

Of course that said, he gave up late goals in Brazil so it might just be wishful thinking on my part.

We played ok during parts of that game. If we werent shuffling the defense in the last 30 minutes of these games, I'd be a bit more worried. It doesnt seem like Jurgen has a set centerback pairing. The fullbacks are probably not set either. Garza looked shaky for the first time since he's come into the team.

Anyway, these types of games against tough opposition on the road are good - better than thrashing CONCACAF minnows on the regular.

He didn't technically substitute any of the defenders in the game but he likes to field different teams to try things out. He sees the WC cycle as a 4 year process where we should peak in 2018 and not 2015. Makes sense to me but the general trend is a bit discouraging. I am still hoping to catch the next two friendlies in Europe (after this Swiss game).

I am hoping for a better defensive effort tonight. Switzerland hasn't historically been an offensive juggernaught but they have a decent goal scoring rate in their euro qualifiers 11 in 5 games. I don't know the individual game breakdowns as I haven't followed that closely for their group.

I would like to see a 1-1 draw or 2-1 win. Can't expect a clean sheet with the latest run of matches.

The Swiss are better team than Denmark, but I dont think a good result is too much to ask. I suspect with Johannsson out, we will go back to a one striker type system.

Agreed, the Swiss are a solid club but they typically play a safe style. They are a team the US can beat in my opinion and the U.S. should have beat Denmark if they can finally close down in the defending third. Clearly not a strength right now.

If we were playing purely for results in these friendlies our record would probably be a bit better. We'd probably be a lot more pragmatic and play a more defensive lineup. Part of the learning curve is trying to play a more offensive style in a hostile environment. If we play attacking football and lose, thats probably better long term for the team than playing conservatively to try to win or draw by sitting back and playing a counterattacking style. That being said, I want to attack and win!

I agree. My concern isn't the result. My concern is the inability to lock down the end of the game. It is an essential skill for the Gold Cup this summer and the Super Copa America next summer. Which I am very excited about. I wish I was in the States for that tourney.

Right now the US needs to close it down. Growth. Would be a terrific victory if they can hold on.

Every freakin' game now. I know they are down a man but the D is simply incapable of holding at the end of a game.

The result is solid pre-game. It is just a very worrying trend that the D is completely unable to hold a lead. I still think Klinsmann is experimenting a bit with all of these lineups but at some point, they need to learn to pack it in and hold the lead.

Shame about the red card. Jozy was complaining to the ref the whole game, with some cause. Looks like frustration boiled over. Sometime you gotta keep your mouth shut. We probably would have won it with 11 on the field. All in all the first 70 minutes we played pretty well. I like what Morales and Williams brought to the midfield.

A great result and the best possible score. I never get tired of Klinsmann's dominance over Mexico. Just plain brilliant.

Good result. That field was a joke though. Guess selling 6o,000 tickets trumps all.

That clean sheet was very positive. It wasn't El Tri's best out there; regardless, something to take pride in.

Down 3-1 in the 70th minute the US won in Amsterdam against Holland.

That was the most fun I've ever had watching a soccer match. I only ever watch the USMNT, and that was simply amazing.
