Do you need to hire a search firm? I mean what else is there to do besides looking at the best offenses and defenses across the country along with low level schools that are doing well and start calling? Does the AD find himself not capable to do that? Does Foley hire a search firm when our coach needs to be replaced?

They should just use the Foley approach.
Hire a guy with ZERO HC experience.

    It has worked out fantastically.

You need to make a background check to make sure the person does not smoke pot. I think since they are in California they should do the correct thing and hire a gay woman. Maybe Ellen has great football sense. You never know until you give them a chance.

Or they could have just allowed Lane to hang around for another season doing nothing while Orgeron coached the team. That's almost just as good.

I know an attorney that works under Haden at USC. I'll ask him if I get a chance.

Hiring search firms is common now. It is much easier for them to have conversations with prospective coaches under the radar and not have a school go through the public embarrassment of having multiple candidates turn you down.

I really, really wish SoCal had waited until their last game of the season to kick Kiffin off the bus! Now, all the fun will be gone watching the Trojans getting squashed in the rest of their games this season!

Exactly. What would be scary is hiring a coach like Kingsbury at USC. What he could do with their recruiting.

Whether it's Foley or a search firm, just remember that defense wins championships. Let them have those exciting offenses that score 40 or 50 points a game. That's just showing off.

It is the same search firm that found the BCS committee members..the next USC coach is Nancy Pelosi.

You don't hire the search firm for the obvious names and people that are readily available, you hire the firm for the names that are seemingly unavailable. The firm probably already has a working relationship with many coaches. Maybe Jim harbaugh misses the college game? Doesn't seem likely but who knows? That's information the firm might know.

Did they use a search firm to find the search firm?

I like that idea. How much do they charge to find an offense that's been missing for 3 years?

No you have to hire Bo Dietl "Legendary Detective" for that. In between gigs with Arby's of course.
