He's obviously the leading candidate for us at OC.

If this is true, if he's not good enough for USC, why would be be a good fit for us? Honest question.

Seems like Helton will be the one from everything I've been reading and I like him. I just wonder what USC sees and why they wouldn't try to retain him if he's that good.

isn't sark an offensive guy himself, if so he probably already has guys that he knows and trusts to run his system. i don't think by him not being retained that makes him a bad coach. some coaches just have their own guys, i don't think that is anything new.

I dont see the problem. Sark is an offensive guy he was always going to chose his OC no matter what school he went to. This is a non issue.

I have this sick feeling that whatever WM does is only going to prolong the inevitable.

I don't think that is really an 'honest question'. That's like insinuating that Fedora is a bad OC because Meyer didn't keep him.

I think it's a good question to ask. Stability on the coaching staff would be desirable, but Sark has an OC at UDub that was very successful, so I can see why he would want to keep him.

Sark is going to call the plays. Doesn't matter who the OC is.
I heard Pat Haden on the radio the day after Sark was hired. He said Sark will call plays. Same as he did at Washington.
Why would he want to stay and not be a full fledged OC?

Not sure what you mean. If by "inevitable" you mean Muschamp finding something else to do with his life, then I agree. But as far as "prolong" goes, aren't we already there? What is the entire 2014 season if not a great prolonging of something that should have happened over a month ago?

Many years ago a new guy was hired as the coach at Ga Tech. He didn't retain Steve Spurrier on the staff. Was that indicative that SOS wasn't a good coach?

I wonder who is right inside USC or UFGator05?

    InsideUSC ‏@InsideUSC4m
#USC will announce after the game that Clay Helton has been retained as offensive coordinator

    InsideUSC ‏@InsideUSC8m
If Clay Helton is offered a job elsewhere, say Florida, then maybe he won't be back but otherwise is retained as #USC OC

to deduce from this situation that helton is "not good enough for usc" seems a bit asinine to me.

I guess it will come down to if he wants to call plays OR USC is helping him get more $$$

I don't see a top OC leaving a stable program to bail us out unless Foley is prepared to write check with lots of zeros. Getting a better rather than best may be the most we can hope for in 2014. I doubt if Foley's in box is overflowing with OC's resumes.

UF also dropped the ball on SOS......Doug Dickey hired him as the QB coach in 78 and Charley Pell did not retain him in 79.Pepper Rodgers was Steve's Off. Cord. in 64 and hired him in 79.........when Curry took over he dumped him.
    SOS never forgot that.......94: UF 73 KY 7......96: 65-0...Curry Fired.......
