Figured it's worth posting. Being on top was fun. :)

Some nice video clips on the article page.

After the AU loss, the 2008 team was the most dominant I've ever seen. They just destroyed teams in every facet of the game. They were stronger, faster, meaner and just better than anyone else out there.

I agree with Meyer. I'd put that '08 squad (post Ole Miss) up against anybody.

Agree, that team after Ole Miss went to another level. 6 straight SEC wins with an average margin of victory of 39.3 points, that is insane.

I preferred the 2006 team. They simply refused to lose...

Haha, kind of like his saying he left the Florida program loaded with talent.

Yes, each team has its own collective character, both great.

I'm reminded here of how important Tim Tebow was for our success under Meyer. I just can't imagine getting there twice without him. I bet Meyer knows that as well.

Not necessarily. I think we have a contract that requires us to.

The 2008 team isn't even the best team the state of Florida has produced (2001 Miami). Nevermind other teams that actually went undefeated like the 95 Cornhuskers.

The final record isn't always indicative of how good a team is. A one loss record against a brutal schedule is more impressive to me than a team with an undefeated record against a bunch of cream puffs.

2008 Florida played FOUR games against top 10 teams and two top three teams.
2001 Miami played one top ten team and zero top three teams.

That was a great team, but Meyer making that statement is self serving.

And there's no good way to compare that team to teams like the 95 Husker team, which was great in it's own right - definitely in the conversation for best ever.

And I'm not sure we really need the crazed wild animal comparison with Hernandez still in the news. Although perhaps the 08 team had something in common with 95 Huskers on the violent criminal front, too.

I love the 2008 team, and they we're definitely great. I would say best of that decade. But, 95 huskers we're the best ever, in my opinion.

AU loss was 2006, and I'd call that loss more of a "bending over and taking it in the rear end" from the SEC Good 'Ole Boy Officiating Network, because we got raped by the officials in that game. I picked us to lose that game for that sole reason. You do not get calls @ AU... period. From the 1982 game all the way to Spurrier's last game up there, to the 2006 game and the last one with Muschamp... we simply get screwed when we go in there.

As for our 2008 team, I'd agree they were one of the best, but perhaps calling the absolute best is still up for discussion. I'm not saying they weren't, because man, they were damned good, but that 1995 Nebraska team was exceptional as well as that 2009 Bama team.

Record-wise I wouldn't or couldn't put the 08 team even in the top 10. That said, the amount of pure NFL talent that roster is staggering. Nearly every starter on that team was or is on a team as we speak. So from that prospective I completely agree with what Meyer had to say. And in all honesty 2009 might have been even better if we had Percy and Mullen but that's a different discussion for a different time.

LOL They were playing the #2 SOS in the nation that year, and their only loss was a 1 point loss to a very good 'Ole Miss team. I'd certainly place this Gators squad in the top 10 of all time, especially with the likes of Tebow, Harvin, The Pounceys, Cooper, Cunningham, and Spikes playing on it.

I meant by pure record. There have been numerous undefeated teams. That being said, it was obviously an immensely special collection of talent we may never see again.
