As ever, you have your finger on the pulse, Atlanta...
You would never know they were banned from bowls or league championships if you looked at their grandstands on Saturdays during the fall.
Those silly suits he wears would certainly work better in the big10+4, less sweating.
Thats why kids should commit to a University and not a coach. Exhibit A - Will Grier.
Miami certainly played tonight like it was Golden's last game.
Wonder if there's time left for O'Brien to NFL and Golden to Penn St before NSD? Even if O'Brien leaves Penn St presumably has to conduct a search. Golden's decent but may not be Penn St's #1 guy.
Golden to Penn State
Strong to Texas
Franklin to Louisville
Hudspeth to Miami
Yes. Penn State will have a new coach named within two weeks. They already know that he is going and have already started working on filling the position.
If Golden isn't #1 on their list, he's close to the top of the list.
Golden stock took a hit tonight.
With scUM fans, yes.
With Penn State decision makers, no.
Latest update from Harrisburg Patriot News. Could be wishful thinking, they do not want to lose O'Brien.
If it's five below zero with a 40 mph wind out of the north at Wisconsin in late November, he'll still be wearing the same white shirt and tie with no coat or gloves.
As a general proposition, I don't agree with you. In this era, a lot of kids (especially on offense) commit to a scheme. But I understand why college kids can't be free agents so to speak. It's unfortunate.
On the other hand, players should have a remedy for lying, especially this close to NSD. In this ESPN article, a PSU recruit was supposedly told by O'Brien that he is staying. If the kid tries to do his due diligence and the coach bolts, why should the player be harmed?
One more reason to leave...the Louisville game last night didn't help matters either.
Overall, Golden has a done a good job at scUM. Four years ago, we were talking about them falling off the side of the earth. Now, they are competing with us and FSU for the best players in the state.
He kept them competitive through two terrible PR years and got to 9 wins this year.
I don't know any of my Miami friends that want to see him go. They really don't want to have to go through another transition.
As far as how Golden is viewed, that beat down by a superior team will be quickly forgotten.
Points taken...however,don't you believe he would be afforded more levity if he went to penn state? And it is a better job than Miami, probation years notwithstanding.
There's no excuse for being dishonest, ever. It's mitigated if the coach announces his intentions before NSD or spring semester, so the kids have a chance to look elsewhere.
I agree that football is different from other team sports, like basketball. I know that O'Brien is a QB guru so someone in his position group will sign with Penn State to get his coaching, like Hackenberg did.
A lot of the kids (not all, mind you) chose Penn State for a lot of different reasons over the past two years, besides championships and bowl games. In this part of the country, these kids grow up wanting to attend and dream of playing there. It's not as transient of a culture here, like Florida. These folks have never lived anywhere else. Everyone points to the movie "Rudy" as some kind of fantastical depiction of a family, but I can tell you that they exist. They eat, drink, breath and sleep Notre Dame or Penn State around here.
No arguments from me on that.
But, I don't think he has to go either.
The cover-up is always worse than the lie regardless of the situation.
I don't see franklin to Louisville..less than lateral move IMHO.
