"I like our chances better" is a different statement than "not going to happen". A few of the preseason models have us right up there. Currently Florida has a better KenPom rating than UK. However, UK is still top 5. The odds are against every team, but any team with their talent has a shot. And we have a shot too. They aren't mutually exclusive.

The great thing about college basketball is we will all get to find out and not gave to worry about stupid polls.

It will be interesting to see what does happen. I really like this team!

Well your guys do have NIT experience..I forgot that angle.....so maybe I will up my prediction to a UK Sweet Sixteen Exit to a mid major, no less. Your guys are too busy looking in the mirrors and cashing their NBA checks a year. in advance....not the same group type as the John Walls' of the world...and the lug who drank a cup of coffee at Miami...so no NC...book it

Good luck though...there will be entertainment...and that is what College hoop is all about...

Your statement got me wondering, when did UK lose to a mid-major in the NCAA?

    2012 won it all
2011 lost to UConn in final four
2010 lost to West Virginia in elite eight
2009 lost to Notre Dame @ Notre Dame in NIT
2008 lost to Marquette in first round of NCAA (UK was low seed)
2007 lost to Kansas in second round of NCAA
2006 lost to UConn in second round of NCAA
2005 lost to Michigan State in elite eight 2 OT's
2004 lost to UAB in second round of NCAA --- lost to a mid-major

    Now we know.

Lazy narrative that simply hasn't been the case with freshmen at UK. The team with the biggest ego problem was actually Cal's first year. The title team had MINOR ego/effort problems, but it was the sophomores - not the freshmen - which goes against what the lazy assumption would be.

I never expect rival fans to be plugged into UK basketball enough to know this stuff. However, its odd how many think they're plugged in enough to know about players "looking in the mirror" etc similar false notions.

Your list got me wondering. When is the last time UK had a season that was worse than losing to a mid-major in the NCAA tournament?

When you have been to more post season tourneys than any other team the odds go up that you may lose a few.

Homer narrative.......as you are no more plugged in that the average UK fanatic...so I'll run with mine..

Talent will get you into the NCAA's...I'll give ya that...most HS school coaches could accomplish that with this team............but ALL the way...NOT gonna happen...only one ball on the court..

Wow, the facts do not back up your point SwampFox. Calipari fields some of the least selfish teams year after year. Name one instance of UK having a ball hog during the Calipari. Good luck because there has not been one.

If all Calipari has to do is roll out the ball, then why did he not get to the NCAA last year? Also if Calipari is such a horrible coach why do all these five star players want to play for him?

From one rival fan perspective, I would respectfully disagree with Cal's first team having the biggest ego/effort issue. It really looked like last year's team had a major cohesion issue because of a couple guys with pretty big egos, particularly Goodwin, who seems to feel as if he was the only one who should be shooting the ball, especially during 2 or 3 on 1s in the open court on the break.

Maybe it was more of a product of one guy last year, but that group seeemed pretty dysfunctional except for spurts

Dysfunctional, no question about it. Most dysfunctional to date - least talented as well. Bad combination. Based on what I heard about practices and the team in general, Goodwin wasn't an ego problem or a selfish player - as far as character and intention were concerned (I've heard other players have been though to some degree). No doubt his play looked, and effectively was, selfish. But it was more of an issue with role confusion and problems with decision making - trying to do too much. I agree with you though that, effectively, he has been the most selfish player on the court. The difference I'm trying to point out is that this wasn't connected to the "highly ranked freshmen one-and-done" stereotype.

I respect your opinion though and agree with most of what you're suggesting.

If it had not been for Goodwin, UK would have had many more losses. Hell he was the only one that would shoot or do anything according to Callipari. I wish he were back this year.

Enjoy this because we will not lose many more. Kentucky learned a lot tonight and we got better! The 40-0 chatter was silly and was never really thought about by fans with some sense that have been around the block enough.

This UK team is exciting and it will be a fun journey.

Maybe I just know the minority, but most UK fans I talk to expected a loss. Only scary part was when it looked like we might be run out of the gym.

Really, execution-wise, we didn't belong on the floor with MSU. Puts some of the UK haters in an odd position - if UK ends up really good by the end of the year, it means that Calipari guy actually does more than rolls the ball out there...
