Odd that UGA is so low in converting third downs.

Through last week, we were ranked 20th in terms of offensive efficiency. Our offense is better than most people think, we just don't score a whole lot of points. I think we'll see that begin to change.

Not that far behind the 4 teams ahead of us in total offense. I think if we continue to show some improvement on that side we will end up right around 7th or 8th at the end of the year.. We can win any game on our schedule with our superior d IMO.

One could say that stats are for losers. Note that bama's highest ranking is ninth. All the others are down to 12.

Nicho, they've played Clemson, USCe and LSU. Their 3rd down percentage will start to go up now that they're past the toughest part of their schedule.

I hope you're right about the scoring coming sooner or later, I feel the same way but given the competition level so far I want to see it against a good defense first.

However, I agree that we should be looking at offensive efficiency too. The raw yards/game needs to be normalized for pace of play and I bet we would be in or close to the 40-50 range. Not where we need to be but a nice improvement over last year. If we can just start finishing drives, taking care of the ball and not losing players to injury we'll be fine on offense. And if Tyler Murphy continues to play well against better defenses.

On second thought, that is a lot of IFs......good thing our defense is still stout even without #2.

The other day, announcers during the UF game kept comparing the Gators' offense to Oregon. Based on raw numbers, they're correct Oregon ranks #9 while UF is #89.

However, UF spends a lot of time running each play - UF ranks #1 in time used per offensive play at 32.7 seconds. It's not like we're running in slow motion, we just basically milk the clock before the play. What if every team's offensive output was based on using the same amount of time at UF uses? Here's how the top 25 teams would rank (raw offensive rank in parenthesis). Oregon comes in at #52 when ranked this way.

    1 Wisconsin (2)
    2 Bowling Green (8)
    3 Ohio State (4)
    4 Texas A&M (1)
    5 LSU (10)
    6 Western Kentucky (14)
    7 Oregon State (7)
    8 Arkansas (28)
    9 Louisville (29)
    10 Iowa (18)
    11 UTSA (22)
    12 Georgia (19)
    13 Utah State (6)
    14 USC (53)
    15 Florida State (24)
    16 Vanderbilt (26)
    17 Troy (12)
    18 Maryland (33)
    19 Boise State (5)
    20 Mississippi State (59)
    21 Army (42)
    22 Ball State (11)
    23 UCF (65)
    24 Arkansas State (13)
    25 Florida (89)
