Any updates or scores?
Down 4-1 late. Gave up 2 run homer (does that sound familiar?) in top 7th.
Unbelievable. How do we manage to play like this against these types of teams?
Lost 4-2. Late rally falls short. Must be new bats, only work on the weekends.
Mercer is a legitimate team. They'll probably be a 2 seed in the tournament.
Still, it's hard to argue that there hasn't been a bit of a sleepwalking element to these last 3 midweek games.
We have no business losing these games on our own home field. This lacksidasical attitude will catch up to us on weekends sooner or later i fear.
Mercer is 36-11 with an RPI of 20. Pretty much every team in the country has a lost a home game to a team a lot worse than them this year.
Mercer also had last weekend off and used their Fri and Sat starters tonight. Sandwiched between 2 big SEC series this was no surprise at all.
After losing to FAMU, any other loss pales in comparison.
Mercer is a very solid team that may very well end up in a Super Regional this year (I hope they aren't sent to Gainesville) and as APK said they didn't play this past weekend so we saw their #1, #2 and closer.
Baseball is a grind and this team has been awfully good when it has mattered.
Last ESPN projection has Mercer here as a 2 seed, UCF as a 3...would be tough
I'd take it all day long, especially after already getting a preview of Mercer's top two starters and closer.
My two cents though we should still do better in tgrse midweek games.
Sure we should. But in reality there are only 3 midweek games that really count. In those we went 3-0.
Folks that have a knee-jerk negative reaction to the Gators' mid-week losses to lesser schools aren't analyzing all the potential reasons for losing. If I had known that the #20 RPI team in the country was going to throw their #1 and #2 guys at us while we just pieced together a nine inning bullpen effort from some of the guys that haven't gotten to pitch much, I'd have bet that they'd have beaten us by a much wider margin. It would actually have been a surprise if we had won the game, frankly.
