Not sure where this goes, so please move to appropriate location if this is not it, but a co-worker is looking for tickets to UF/Bama. Anyone looking to sell theirs or know of anyone who is. Thanks for the info and I will pass it along.

We were so excited to go to this game, then we found out our daughter has a HS soccer match that same Saturday... Then the wife said, she's almost 18! She can spend a couple nights at her best friend's house! We're going! :) Now looking on-line for hotels, we may be staying 25-50 miles from Tuscaloosa! I thought Gainesville was expensive on game weekends! WOW!

Stay in Bessemer or Pelham AL--suburbs of Bham. Most of them don't jack up rates for games over in Tuscaloosa as so many of their fans live in Bham and just drive over and back after the game.....typically 45 mins or so. With me traveling all over Ala/Ga/Fl as I do, I have spent MANY a night in Pelham at exit 246. Loads of hotels and plenty of places to eat/drink. Especially at a place called The Margarita Grill. You WILL have a good time there. Trust me on this.:D

If you can't find a place there(unlikely this would happen), you 'could stay down at Clanton, AL--several hotels there but not any nightlife. Just a place to sleep and the normal joints to eat at. But it is a simple drive over to Tuscaloosa from there--taking a few backroads will put you in T-town in under 45 minutes in most cases.

Is anyone else staying in Atlanta for this game?

I originally booked a hotel in Birmingham for Fri 9/19 and Sat 9/20, but then I noticed my Bucs happened to be playing the Falcons that week in the NFL Thurs Night game. So, now I'm planning to fly to ATL on Thurs 9/18, attend that game, too, and just make a huge football weekend out of it. I'll definitely be staying in downtown ATL Thurs night, but now I'm kind of wanting to just stay there the whole weekend. Has anyone ever driven from ATL to Bammerland? I've read it's supposed to be like 3 hrs across I-20...does that get backed up pretty bad on game days or anything?

Finding accommodations won't be a problem. Finding tickets WILL.

irongator, it's a 3 1/2 hour drive in normal traffic. You will be fine until you get to bham. Then the fun starts. You will need to leave WAY early to drive from ATL.

Thanks for the response. It sounds like I need to hang onto those Birmingham hotel rooms.

If it's not too much of a hassle, would you mind elaborating on what the traffic is like from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa? Let's say the game is at 3:30, how early would you leave Birmingham to make sure you can get reasonable parking, etc.?

Does this sound more logical than commuting to the game from ATL?:
    - stay in ATL Thurs for the NFL game
    - drive over to Birmingham Fri
    - attend the game in Tuscaloosa Sat and spend Sat night in Birmingham again
    - drive back to ATL on Sun for a late afternoon flight back to Orlando

Thanks again for any info - this will be my first time to Alabama so I'm completely ignorant right now. If any more experienced Gator travelers, or any Gator fans living in that area, want to weigh in and critique my plan or offer tips, I would greatly appreciate it. And if I come across any extra tix, I will definitely be sure to post them here. Hope to see lots of Orange and Blue at the game...Go Gators!

Sorry I didn't get back w/ more info.

You DEFINITELY need to have bham be your layover each night (especially Fri.) The drive in from bham is where the real problem is, it gets crowded on that highway early on game day. All the way in from ATL that morning isn't advisable.

If we beat them they will clear out FAST after the game and you could get back to ATL that night late. IF. And don't forget the time change.
