Some supposed Gator fans on here would like you to believe that we are inferior, and that there are far better options for both prospective coaches and recruits out there.

yes, we are an elite HC position, but i don't think that fact is the trump card that some people make it out to be. don't get me wrong, it's a huge factor that should attract attention from a lot of potential candidates, but it doesn't make it a given that any particular guy would come here if offered. lots of other variables. if a candidate and his family think it's not right for them for whatever reason, they're not coming no matter how loudly we scream 'but we're elite!'

[not saying that the OP is saying this, btw. it's just a sentiment i see around frequently]

I believe we are Elite, and yes, we are screaming we are elite in hopes that we will be heard and get coaching personnel that is elite as the program itself...somebody has their ear muffs on.

The only way our program or our brand as a whole goes down is if this literally happens.

No one coach can make us not a top 10 job nationally. Our location, funds, facilities etc etc will always ensure that Florida is a top 10 job. Saying otherwise is just piling on at this point.

Doesn't really matter anymore….does it? We were a top 10 coaching job after Spurrier and Meyer. Muschamp was quite a catch at the time, but I believe things are a little murky right now. Our fan base seems intent on chasing off both coaches and recruits so I'd say we are no longer an elite coaching position!

Sad truth. For at least a vocal portion of the fan base.

To say that our top ten standing depends on "the right coach" is amateurish beyond belief. Indeed, the entire article is silly, based on their criteria.

Do coaches really give a rats ass what the fans think? Even have a hard time believing recruits would take anything said on a message board seriously.

Recruits live in an online social web where it matters what people say about them and the groups they choose to associate with. You have to remenber they are still teens, too. As much as they vocalize independence, they still need to feel supported.

Most coaches probably don't care too much for themselves personally as long as it is not constant berating. But when it's constant, they're people with feelings, too. And especially as it impacts their families.

We heard this same stuff about recruits reading the board when Zook was here. Didn't seem to hurt.
