Grier might take exception to that.

Tyler could scramble and slide in the pocket but he wasn't going through his progression. Tyler struggled with calling protections and checking out of plays so much so they started calling some things from the sideline. I am not one to pick out one play to say a player is making mistake but the option on the 1 check was crazy.

They had to scale back the play book because of what he knew and his arm strength. He wasnt that accurate with the football either go back and watch the kind of circus grabs Dunbar and Burton were having to make. He did a pretty darn good job managing the game against 3 terrible football teams.

Tyler did have a decent amount of first team reps. Jeff missed few weeks of camp with the appendix issue so Tyler got first team reps there. Jeff was hurt the bye week so Tyler got first team reps there as well. Tyler was a back up QB that I wished was still on the team but he knew he had no chance in beating out Jeff.

I'm glad they're starting at another school than go into college athletic purgatory, however, it's just another reinforcement of the fact that backups in the sec are starters in the acc...not bad, just different levels of athletics.

    I've debated about posting this
I hear what you are saying, but Jeff wasn't exactly running through his progressions very well. He would lock onto his first receiver, and then tuck it and run if the receiver was covered. He was also holding onto the ball forever, then taking the sack if he didn't know what to do with the ball.

From what I saw, the team looked energized with Tyler, and you can't argue with his accuracy, until he got hurt. Regardless of that injury, he was a trooper but played well enough to win some games. Too bad his injury didn't allow us to see what he could have done through the rest of the season. As it is the OL was a sieve, and he was better at getting out of trouble, when he had to improvise.

He is better than the others, that could also be interpreted that he is the tallest midget, no offense to short people intended..

I agree. Just growing tired of losing so many good players to other teams. Really can't help our program and while I love Murphy, I love UF more. Still, can't route against the kid at all.

Yeah, but I really think the qb position is in really good hands for the first time since Tim. Grier will be all sec, and I have a feeling treon is no slouch.

Agreed. He was the number 1 QB out of high school for a reason. We just put him in an impossible system. Tebow wasn't exactly a top tier QB in terms of reading defense, etc. But he was put in a position to heighten what he was greater than everyone else at. It seems Driskel was forced into a system he would never work well in, he is a spread QB If he was in our system under Meyer I'd almost guarantee he would have been successful because it was a better fit for him. Hopefully Roper can utilize his talents. His zone read is incredible, and everytime we used it we got huge gains(see Vandy 2012). He also has a pretty decent arm but the deep throw never got used it seemed, if we get the ball down field more with the core we have now in Debose, Dunbar, Robinson...I feel he can have a lot better games.

Agree, but Tim is simply hard to judge. His will was ridiculous, I think he would thrive in any system....in college.

I can certainly say Tyler was not that accurate before he got hurt I watched the games. His arm strength also limits the throws he would even attempt. Then you go to knowledge of the offense etc..

He played well enough to beat some bad teams which is what you want out of a back up I wished he had stayed but he was not better than Jeff he knew this which is why he left.

No doubt he has great talent, as did Bobby Sablehouse, Ryan Leaf, Kyle Morris, et al.
Don't get me wrong I'm a big JD fan, and I was on his bandwagon when he was made the starter over Brissett, but I don't think he was playing better than Murphy at the time JD was injured. DW didn't have great talent, Doug Johnson did, but DW was a better qb.

You think Tim would have thrived in a pro style system where he had to go through full progression and stay in the pocket? I have heard it all now

I agree. But I want Grier to redshirt, and Murphy there would ensure he could. Maybe we get him playing for four years..though not typical it seems his love for UF is Tebow like almost it seems by how happy he is to be here. Maybe he gives us four solid years instead of three :p
