Duke (7) lost a close game on the road to Notre Dame (one where Parker was benched down the stretch for not defending).
Oklahoma State (6) lost on the road to K State.
Memphis (18) lost at home to Cincy - and it wasn't close.
UConn (17) lost on the road to SMU. SMU?

Those were just the losses. Some of the wins, as you guys know, were tough as well.

Florida (12) in a battle till the last few minutes.
Syracuse (2) won 49 to 44 at home against Miami. Must have been one ugly game.
Zona (1) over Washington was close till the last couple minutes.

Not saying this is incredibly surprising. But I think it does mean that teams like Florida can't write off a 1 or 2 seed because of a couple early losses. Things are up for grabs and I don't see completely dominant teams out there that are going to roll through anyone they play.

So, we'll probably make it into the Top 10 when the new polls come out.

I feel the Gators have an excellent chance of securing a top seed if they continue to win.

What? No way. Didn't you see that Notre Dame beat Duke? That means they're obviously one of the ten best teams in the country because Duke is probably the best team ever. Also Oklahoma State has Marcus Smart, who is really good, so they're obviously really good. Probably only drop them to #9. With ND moving up, we'll probably move down at least a spot in the AP poll.

As I said earlier in the year, once OSU started playing teams better than #250, they would start losing.

Because of our really bad offensive statistics yesterday, we dropped from 12 to 17 in the Pomeroy rankings, which are statistically driven. Arkansas, on the road, is now projected as a loss (48% chance of a win). I think we win that game.

I'm not sure why there's a question mark after SMU. Larry Brown is an excellent coach, and if they ever snuck in to the Tourney, I would not want to face them in the opening rounds.

Brown's a great coach and he's got a good staff also. They're going to be a very good team in the future (have a stud poing guard coming in next year). This just shouldn't have been a game UConn lost IMO.

Duke is 0-2 against top 25 teams and is pathetic in the frontcourt. And yet the media votes them number 7 with an RPI of 40.

    What a croc.

I didn't know Larry Brown was back coaching in college. Guy is probably the best coach in college right now. He can get more out of his players than anyone else. Problem is he doesn't stay in one place long because the players get tired of him and he seems to always want to move on to something else. Maybe college will suit him better since rosters turn over so frequently, but he won't stay at SMU for long, that's for sure.

Kenpom has SMU at 39 by the way.

REM, I think you are correct in that there doesn't appear, at this time, to be any "dominant" team, however, some teams are likely to improve through the year, while others may not.

As I have noted many times, until one is midway through a conference schedule, there is really no way to generate anything that even begins to approach reasonably National Rankings. Simply too many unknowns in the OOC schedules, with some, like OSU playing no one, and some playing a very tough OOC schedule. Simply too much variability for comparison.

Larry Brown is 73 years old so this is likely a last hurrah for him. A lot of folks were shocked when he took this job but the man can still flat out coach. Apparently he can recruit as well. Better keep him in mind. The Mustangs have an interesting athletic department. Their Football coach is June Jones, formally of Hawaii and 61 years old. The youngster. Makes me wonder who their AD is and how old he is?!

I think we would have to have a 3 loss SEC season or better to be in contention for a #1 seed, with a win over Kentucky.

Our top non-conference wins took a tumble this weekend:
    • FSU lost to Virginia
    • Memphis lost to Cincy.
    • Kansas is down 11 to SDSU with 9 mins left.
