GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gator gymnastics anticipated home 2018 schedule launches Friday with the nation's top dual meet of the weekend.

No. 7 Florida opens home action versus top-ranked Louisiana State. The meet starts at 6:45 p.m. in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

The meet features the No. 2 (LSU) and No. 3 (Florida) teams in 2017 NCAA Super Six team final action. This pair also took the top-two spots in 2017 Southeastern Conference Championship competition, with LSU edging UF for the league title.

Florida on the road week one 195.90 week two in Gvl 197.125

LSU week one at home 197.15 week two in Gvl 197.250

Florida had 2 major drops Slocum on Vault 4.35 and Gowey on Uneven Bars

To me the season goal is to get better, fine tune the routines, find out who performs best under pressure.
I was really hoping for a win but this meet showed me we will be right there in the hunt when we get to the true tests at season's end.

We have a great mix of youth and seasoned vets and we have Slocum to make the mix work.

On to Lexington to tame the Wildcats...........

    Team obviously showed great improvement.
I have to ask anyone who watched. Please do not deride me for the question.
How much home cooking did we get? What would the scores be in Baton Rouge or a neutral location?
What are we getting from the freshmen?
    Thank you! Go Gators!!

Freshmen got a lot of time, for the most part looked talented with a ton of potential. McMurtry I believe skipped floor, don't need to over work the body I guess. Two very talented teams that will be there at the end.

Also, over 9k for a gymnastics meet early in the season is impressive.

Alex is still dealing with back issues and Coach knew we had a solid group without her, no point in over working your senior star :)
Two highlights for us were getting to watch UF J school grad Laura Rutledge work but by far the best was watching the interaction between the entire team and Bailey, what a trooper she is, doing flips between the teams when they were readying for the awards presentation. We will be back in row 5 in 2 weeks :)

Alex at 100% would have been enough to beat LSU. She is definitely better than .125 than our worst floor score

I agree, Alex is a dream on the floor, she is still having some back problems and was wearing support at Friday's meet, just a guess but I think Coach Rowland is thinking that by holding Alex out of the floor exercise she got to put in someone who could benefit from the experience and save Alex's back at the same time, like I say just a guess but it would make sense, hell we came pretty close as it was.
    - On the way out of the arena I stopped to talk to several of the LSU gymnasts, they truly respect our program and enjoy the competition, I told them we were going to win this year, they don't think so but I do :)

Alex did the same thing last year. Was held off of floor for the 1st half of the season. I think she just has a bad back and has to do things like this to manage the season.

Honestly, I don't think we got a lot of home cookin' on that one. If anything, LSU on the road got the benefit of the doubt, granted I don't know a whole lot about judging. Maybe their starting values were just higher than ours, but I swear there was equally the same amount of poor aspects between the both of us on just about everything, yet they consistently grabbed higher scores than we were.

Slocum's personality is infectious (in a good way)... but she had a terrible day, which I doubt will be the norm.

I agree with your take on Alex, we need her in top form & good health at the end. I think the judging was fine and that the kids did well for a second meet. We love the whole team but Slocum is the one who keeps the whole crew loose, it is impossible to be around her without laughing. She just was not really ready for her vault and blew it.
