I know some May not like this but I still do think the book is not closed on stoops yet in the long run.

Tim wouldn't have been dissed by the media and blackballed by the NFL if he had come from Alabama because of the sacred cow effect. He came from Alabama, he's supposed to be religious, he was limited by the offensive system he played in, he needs time to develop, what circus? Blah, blah, blah. He probably wouldn't be starting anywhere, but he'd have no trouble making a roster somewhere.

You'd be correct. Tim was always going to be a Gator.

Wasn't Timmy going to play LB if Jevon Snead had signed? :D

He certainly was built for it.

I'm just not sure if you were joking or not, the smiley threw me off. :)

    Another thing concerning rivals
If we don't have our run of success between 2006-2009, does FSU ever get fed up enough to oust Bowden the way they did? The jealousy of seeing us win those 2 titles and beating them by 30+ points a year helped feed the talking points of those who wanted Bowden gone.

According to Tebow's autobiography, Tebow still had not made a final decision as of the DAY of his announcement.
He wrote out his prepared remarks, and left the school name blank.

He finally decided 15 minutes before he was scheduled to go on stage, called Shula to break the bad news, and Shula was so classy about it he almost changed his mind again. Then he called Meyer, and the call dropped before Tebow could commit. A shaken Tebow had to go on stage, still slightly in doubt, and obviously announced for us.

Maybe Tebow was exaggerating for his autobiography, but it sounds like he had plenty of doubts.

That was one hell of a recruiting job by shula considering the state of bama football at that time. They certainly were not the power house they were today.

I started this thread because I'm amazed at how much impact Tebow's decision had on so many other entities other than UF. Remember bama got put on sanctions and had to vacate wins for the period shula was there, had tebow gone to bama I don't believe he would be the heralded college legend we see him as today.

Nice info! I hadn't read his autobiography yet, i think I will wait for the movie to come out.......

You know the one that features him winning the super bowl for what ever team gives him a "real" shot at playing. :)

I saw Spikes quoted that after working with Tebow at some of the high school all-star events, he decided he was going to go to college wherever Tebow went.

I would be willing to bet that Cam Newton would not have ever got kicked out of the University of Florida. and I do not think Tebow would have done nearly as well under Schula. urban had the right offense for Tim Tebow. but if "if" was a fifth we would all be drunk.

If you like Tebow you should definitely read the book. Lots of great stuff in there- especially if you are a Gator. He talks quite a bit about his recruitment.

It's a colloquialism that is rooted in this not so great movie that generally means that the slightest little changes in our daily lives can have a profound change on them.

    Great thread!

No Tebow = no championships and Meyer is probably only marginally successful here.

Bama was hardly weak, however. They were just coming off a 10-2 season and had another 10-win season three years prior. Indeed, compare:

    Year-----------Alabama----------Florida

    2002.................10-3........................8-5
    2003...................4-9........................8-5
    2004...................6-6........................7-5
    2005.................10-2........................9-3

    Total.............30-20....................32-18

    Florida was no powerhouse, either.

Tim nearly signed with Alabama. A big influence for Tim staying with Florida was Larry Fedora, who Tim respected and liked. And while Tim had a few key plays in 2006, that team was built on another recruit who announced at the All-Army game that he was going to win a National Championship at Florida and invited other All-Army players to join him. Harvin was wooed by Meyer and the spread option to come to Florida.
