You are sure of that how? They block AND they go out for passes. Why do people think the guys behind them are any good at either? He is in the game because they believe he is the best option after going through spring and fall camp.

They made it clear all off season that TE was by far the weakest position on the team

Maybe the UT game the staff will start Tyler Murphy Kelvin Taylor Kent Taylor Demarcus Robinson and Fulwood. Even though the team has moved the ball the first two games of the season

Coaches make mistakes all the time regarding personnel. Again, I have seen backups out shine starters when given the chance.

And on a side note if the other options are so much worse than Clay, why do we even have them on scholarship?

Because they have done everything they have been asked to do like go to class and practice. They are also young we are talking about a sophomore and a red-shirt freshmen. You want to process them and have nobody on the team at that position in the future that is what got us into this mess

No I don't want that, because I don't realistically think they are that bad. I just think our coach is making a poor decision.

So you think you're smarter than about 50 years of coaching experience?

Absolutely nothing. But you can't keep trotting out the player if he isn't producing. What sense does that make? Those other players might stink if they get a shot, or they might actually makes some plays that help move the offense and score points. We average 20/ppg right now. That's pretty awful. But I guess looking for improvements from other sources is frowned upon

If that player is better than the other ones you have to keep sending out that player. They knew all off season they were going to suck at the TE position. Which means they need to get more production out of other positions. It looks like they are getting more production out of the WR potion. The problem last game was the TO's in the redzone

If I'm not mistaken I saw one of the other guys, Taylor to be specific, catch a beautiful 5 yard drag route against Louisville last year for a TD.....But if UT, Caintuckee, or Arky's defense hold us to a 2.8 YPC average I'll be waiting for a better explanation....

It was a wide open touchdown essentially in garbage time. Not sure how beautiful it was.

Clay Burton starting reeks of circle of trust non sense. I sure hope it's not that. Burton cannot catch a pass even when wide open...nor can he get wide open. And it's not like he is that great of a blocker either. We should just replace Burton with an offensive linemen. That would at least provide some insane blocking.

Many fans here were smarter than Meyer, Muschamp, and Weis when it came to Gillslee.......

If Clay really is our best option at TE then we have serious issues at that position. I don't think we have ever been that bad in recent memory, Clay can't get open, or catch, maybe average at blocking but that's it.

Nothing against the kid but it is what it is

said it in another thread he was hurt and couldn't block those two things matter. One thing people continue to forget is player mature differently. You can have a player that is not very good for his first few years then become and All American once they "get it". Fans get to see player play when they are ready. Guys like Gille and Kent Taylor could be terrible for two years then the light turns on.

We have had a lot of really good TE's of late Reed Hernandez Ingram Casey. It sucks that the position is where it is at but that is what happens when you have players leave the team

Sad to say, but in the two years I've seen Clay attempt to play TE, he has succeeded only in dropping passes and committing penalties on offense and special teams.

Perhaps, using Gideon or Hunter as blockers in that position would be more productive than having him on the field anymore.
